Instagram Update!!!

December 18th, 2012
These are Flickr's terms with regards to photos. If Instagram is serious about protecting the rights of photographers, let them duplicate these terms.

"With respect to photos, graphics, audio or video you submit or make available for inclusion on publicly accessible areas of the Yahoo! Services other than Yahoo! Groups, the license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display such Content on the Yahoo! Services solely for the purpose for which such Content was submitted or made available. This license exists only for as long as you elect to continue to include such Content on the Yahoo! Services and will terminate at the time you remove or Yahoo! removes such Content from the Yahoo! Services."

I think Instagram is doing a little bit of a dance in an effort to keep people from bailing. The photographers that are deleting their accounts are EXACTLY the ones Instagram wants to keep; because they are the serious photographers with the quality images. Nobody is going to pay instagram for feet and food, which will be all that's left when the real quality leaves them for Flickr.

Their current terms:
"...you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you post on or through the Service" and "you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you."

Seems VERY clear to me that my decision to delete my account was the right one, no matter how "they" try to spin it.

@grizzlysghost A very wise decision, Aaron. They are owned by Facebook - a company not exactly noted for privacy or protecting the rights of artists. With everything I learned today about Flickr, I see no reason to turn back to Instagram no matter how well they dance.

@kannafoot @grizzlysghost I just thank goodness I never used instaqram, therefore don't have to worry about all this mess, but just wanted to pass what I saw forward..

@grizzlysghost - "Nobody is going to pay instagram for feet and food,"

Hahaha!!! ;-)

funny that they make sure to tell us we own the photos but do nothing to change the language about how the photos will be used

@grizzlysghost what is it with photos of feet? There are a bunch of those on here too.
December 19th, 2012
@jsw0109 Haha, yes there are!

I cancelled mine within 5 minutes of reading the news. No regrets, no matter how they spin it now.
