I came across a good lens price for F mount lens. Can I use these lens without a special adapter if I want to shoot in Manual Focus? I looked at charts and tried Googel'ing it but I'm still not clear so I wanted to know what you thought?
D5100 is what i shoot and i use many old nikon lenses without problem, you will have to have the camera in manual mode and use manual focusing and your light meter won't work but there are
this was shot with a 1973 55mm nikkor macro on my D5100
and this is another lens that i use often, its a 50 1.4 not sure what year but old
From what I understand some Nikons can't use some of these lenses without having them converted but the D5100 has taken every lens that I have tried and worked wonderfully with them. What lenses did you find?
@jsorensenart@cheribug Thank you so much!! My husband has the Nikon D3100 so I assume they should work for his camera too. We will have to share some lens
@jsorensenart@cheribug I purchased a used AF 50mm for my Nikon d5100. And it works in manual. My question is - When I select the aperature on the camera my camera says I'm getting from 1.8 to 22 so I assume that is correct, it appears to be but having played with it that much yet..
My question is there is a little orange piece that slides and you can set it in a different location on the camera but then my camera says it needs to be locked it. I locked it in 1.8. Can I just leave it there or am I suppose to adjust that whenever I take a photo? Im just not sure what that is for. Thank you in advance!
@myhrhelper I believe what you are referring to is the minimum aperture lock. For you camera meter to work correctly with this lens you need to set the aperture on the lens to its smallest aperture, which in this case is f22 and slide the lock to the locked position. after you do that you will control the aperture through the camera. With this lens set up this way you should be able to shoot in manual, aperture priority, and shutter priority, the only thing your camera can't do with this lens is autofocus because it doesn't have a built in autofocus motor in the camera body. Most of my old lenses are older than the one you have and don't have any electronic connection between the camera and the lens so i have to shoot in manual mode and the light meter doesn't work. with the lens you have everything except AF should work perfectly is the aperture ring locked at f22
