I'm considering applying to take an AS and A level in photography next year, but I'm still unsure. I'm interested to hear if anyone has taken this and what they thought of it? I'm worried that photos will become a chore and I'll lose the spark and passion that I have for it :( Any advice?
I'm doing an Art Btec at the moment, and I need to leave school with the equivalent of a B grade in that (merit or distinction) and a 'strong' portfolio for my photography. Are my pictures good enough for this?
Do they give more information on what you'll be doing in the classes? (There are quite a few areas of photography for classes, dark room, B&W ,studio, etc.)
How do you feel about having your work critiqued by classmates and teachers?
Maybe post some of the photos you are planning to use for your portfolio in this thread :)
I did an A level at night school 6 years ago, when my children 'flew' the nest, and I loved it so much that I didn't want it to end. I ended up signing up and completing a BA Hons degree. I now eat. sleep and breath Photography (due also to 365!) so I would say do it
@binny We would do film and digital photography. I'd be happy for work to be critiqued because I really want to improve my work! Um yeah, I'll collect a few photographs together and post them here for my portfolio, thanks:D
@stoat And Debbie, thanks for your advice! I will consider it, although I took Art B tech for the love of it and the work load simply put me off it and I've totally lost interest now :( . Thanks for your comment!
@naturalbeauty If it's going to be your main career, go for it! :)
As a hobby, I'm now finding a lot of tutorials online like youtube. I got a few discounted ebooks on photography last Christmas. I would love to get to a class but I can't seem to find the time.
Whichever you choose, I think you'll enjoy and have fun with it! :)
@naturalbeauty I am following you now. Your pictures are all looking great! Try the different free tutorials online so you can study on your own time. Have fun!
About 3 - 4 years ago I did the AS in evening class and the A2 in day class (as there were no evening classes). I did enjoy it and got a good grade in the A-Level. It also helped me use the film camera as it had been several years since I used a film camera and was extremely rusty.
