Hi
I'm looking at getting the Macro converter lens and just wondered is it worth getting, or am I wasting my money
OLYMPUS MCON-P01 Macro Converter Lens
and also looking at the
OLYMPUS Digital M.Zuiko 17 mm f/2.8 Pancake Lens
as it looks like a nice lens to own as its compact and would be great at times.
Thank you for taking the time to read and looking forward to hearing from fellow 365 ers as I'm still learning and thought it was better to invest in these two rather than the
Olympus M.ZUIKO 60mm 1:2.8 DIGITAL ED Lens - Black which I would have to save up for.
I have the Zuiko macro converter. It is great alternative. I have 9-18mm which never leaves camera so don't need 17mm. By all accounts 17mm is small and lightweight.
@bizziebeeme If your looking at the 17mm Olympus I would consider looking at the 20mm Panasonic. It's a little more a expensive and a little bigger but is still very small and is quicker at f1.7. The the 20mm is a great lens and hailed as a 'must have'.
If you still want the 17mm I wouldn't buy new, as this was a kit lens so you'll likely be able to find a lot of deals on used lenses.
@elgjay thank you for replying I shall take a look as the extra expense is probably worth it as the Olympus pancake lens was on sale at curry for £199 which is a lot of money but it probably is worth paying a little extra .....
@elgjay@bizziebeeme I'm not sure that this is correct. The 17mm Olympus was released after the 20mm and 14mm Panasonics. The Olympus 17mm wasn't sold as a kit lens, but I would go for the 12mm Zuiko if I had the cash. The only one of the Panasonic lenses I would consider is the 42mm Leica if it was cheaper.
Alternatively buy an M43 adapter and get a vintage lens
I know the used sites in Canada you can usually find the 17mm pretty inexpensive because there was enough kits going around.
I have the 12mm Olympus and it's a great lens part of the high quality fast fast primes. Bang for the buck I still think the 20mm is your best choice. I'm a sucker for fast primes and the 20mm with it's size and sharpness has taken over as my every day kit from the Olympus 12mm and the Voigtlander 25mm.
