So I see that Street View came up in a discussion a few years ago, but I thought I'd share an experience and see if others have had similar ones—and if it might lead to something fun.
During my "staycation" last week, I found myself wanting to know more about the umbrella sculpture that Ian Birks @iii featured from his trip to the south of France in this photo:
Through the power of Google Street View, I was able to take a few clues from the photo and zero in on the exact location, as verified by the photographer himself.
Alas, the sculpture evidently wasn't there when the googlecar drove through Marseille... so the mystery continues.
But a side effect of this exercise is a desire to take snapshots of a more extended tour of the world through Google... and I wonder if anyone else has found themselves taking virtual photos through Google? Perhaps we should have some sort of a Street View Contest?
I recently found a co-workers house on Google maps street view. As the car was driving by he had apparently just stepped out onto his front porch (perhaps about to do yard work, IDK) without a shirt on. Quite a funny thing to capture really.

Look at the bottom two of squamloons pics....bottom right is a little yellow person standing on top of a green arrow....top left is a white circle with + and - symbols belw it....in normal map view the yellow person is just above the + symbol....click and drag the yellow figure over any street, if the street turns blue you can release the figure et voila! You have street view! The green arrow shows your direction of view, click on the road ahead to progress along it. :)
I came across a road accident on Streetview at the traffic lights on the main road through Glen Vine in the Isle of Man. One minute the road is clear, and in the next frame you are passing a damaged car and lots of police vehicles!
I am on google earth at my old house with my dog, we were in the front garden when the van came around. I remember at the time thinking it was a strange van. My friends who brought the house from me think it is really cool that I am still there , on google earth anyway...
