return faulty lens which is still under warranty to Sigma or to Amazon.co.uk?

Hi, My Sigma 18-250 has a fault whereby sometimes it seems that that the focus ring is sticking slightly and so auto focus either doesn't work or is very slow and noisy - usually when it is at its max length. It is still under warranty and although I have searched the internet I am still unsure whether it would be better to return it to Sigma or to Amazon.co.uk for repair. Any views would be welcome. Must admit I have put off doing anything about this for some time because I don't really want to be without it for any length of time but I think the time has come to bite the bullet.......

I have had the lens for just over six months.

Thanks!

I had a problem with a Sigma macro lens a while ago (although it was out of warranty). I took it directly to the Sigma workshop and they were very helpful and did a repair while I waited although it was straight forward so yours may take longer.

Although you have bought via Amazon, as this is not as simple as going into a shop I suggest you contact Sigma directly (telephone first to discuss) and then send recorded delivery (well packaged). I would think they should cover your postage.

Here is a link to their page (you probably already have it) http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/returns and they are very helpful on the telephone - 01707 329 999. They may be able to advise on somewhere close to you where you can drop it in to be collected. Good luck - I hope you get it sorted.

Sigma.. if its anything like Canon they will have an approved repairer who will sort it for you.

Def go to Sigma...it's their warranty

check the sigma web site.. there may be a preference as to whether you take it directly to sigma or go via amazon. That said if it were me, i'd go direct to sigma

Yup, directly to Sigma. Amazon would probably send it to them anyway as well.

Thanks all for your responses. I had assumed that Sigma would be the answer, but have read online that it takes them AGES to deal with these things and wondered if Amazon might care more about their customer service and/or have a bit more weight behind them when dealing with Sigma than I do. Thanks again @emmadurnford @markyl @swilde @toast @gabrielklee

@jantan I'd go straight to Amazon customer service. I've always found them to be extremely helpful and obliging.

Legally in the Uk the onus is on the seller to resolve the issue .

I repeat .. legally it is Amazon who are responsible. your contract of sale is with them

they are legally required to provide goods fit for purpose.
I would contact them first to find whether they will simply ask you to return and they will replace,or ask you to return for repair .. My instinct is they might well opt for the former.
Infact this is the advice of Consumer organisation ' WHICH' .. otherwise you are left in limbo between 2 organisations.

Yes I would go straight to Amazon - they resolved the problem with my Nikon camera when it became faulty. They are very good as they want you to be satisfied.

@jantan I have had excellent service from both companies but would go to Amazon first, as you bought from them. I agree with @june , and have also taken advice from Which in the past that proved to be very effective.

Just ask Amazon what to do.
