Negaitve scanner

June 2nd, 2013
Need some help with this one. I was looking at getting a negative scanner and have no idea where to start. There is a massive range of scanners from £30 to £250+. Does the price tag reflect the quality? Is there any difference between the cheap and expensive? Any suggestions on actual scanners?

Thanks

@styru I quite like the idea of it being stand alone. So is there any difference between the expensive and the cheap ones or are you just paying for fancy exteriors and blue LEDs?

@gwhit123 - the cheaper ones have a lower resolution - but the one I linked to above seems ok to me for what I need.

I am in Australia and I actually run my own slide scanning business so know a bit about this topic. Yes, you do get what you pay for. Not sure what brands you

Sorry, whole reply did not post :(
You get what you pay for. I bought a cheap one out of curiosity and the results were pretty bad. I use the Nikon Coolscan, one of the best you can get but only 2nd hand on EBay for a few thousand £££ now as no longer made. Minolta Dimage is also a good 2nd hand option. I have heard reasonable things about Plustek which I think you can get in UK. Otherwise the Epson photo 700 (I think) does a reasonable job on film, not as good as a dedicated film scanner though.
Hope this helps!
