17-Year Cicadas photos anyone?

June 10th, 2013
Just wondering if anyone on the US Eastern area have encountered or taken photos of the this year's Cicadas since this is supposed to be one of the largest (Early estimates suggested there might be as many as “30 billion” or “1 trillion” cicadas hatch in the U.S. Northeast this year). Here is an article with more details.

I'd love to see some photos! I remember them from when I was a young child living in Illinois!

Meg
Thanks for the link Mike...those are amazing photos. We get cicadas here....not many, but you can see the shells they leave on the trees.

My personal feelings about cicadas is, they make a huge mess of my windshield and they are so noisy they drive me nuts! Other than that, they are pretty cool to photograph.

@fishy Hey, there's my photo! :-)

Yes, we've got an estimated million per acre. The noise level is deafening. These are 17 year Cicadas. You can see their exit holes in the ground every few inches! We're almost done with them at this point and from what I have been reading, I think here in Virginia we have had more than some other places.

@mikegifford Oh no, oh no, oh no! I *hate* these things. LOL. I especially don't like them when they get brought in by the cats. "Hey, Mom, look what we brought you!!!" Ugh. I'll keep my eyes...err, ears...out for the little buggers.
