Help. Yongnuo YN560-II Speedlite

I have this flash unit that is only just over a year old (4 days to be exact) and when I went to use it today it would not turn on. It tries to turn on but dies instantly. I have tried new batteries, different batteries, a combo of batteries but nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone in this wonderful community have one of these and can they suggest a fix? The online company I purchased it from has said that as it is out of guarantee period they will charge me $8 US to repair it plus any shipping costs. A heavy discount on the repairs they tell me.
Is it worth spending the money on or should invest in something else? It is going to cost me $30 just to ship it back to them. I really like this for an off camera flash and when it works it works pretty well.

Given the low price, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one.

They are disposable. On Amazon they are $66 US, so pitch it and get a new one. :)

Are you using li ion batteries? I.e. rechargeables? I remember reading somewhere in reviews for these that someone had a unit which only worked with rechargeables only I think, though I think it might have died prematurely afterwards anyway... There's some batteries which Kev told me to buy on Friday, which would be a good investment even for a replacement anyway... I forget the ones... @snaggy - what were those batteries called? Sanyo something's... Began with "e"

@tomo87 @k1w1 Sanyo Eneloops (wierd name, I know) which are good for 1500 recharges if looked after (that's the 2000mAh version). They're a bit more expensive than other rechargeables but possibly worth it for their repeatablle behaviour and longevity.
I'm with the other guys btw, particularly if the flash has had some use - they only have a certain life. Probably worth ditching and getting a new one. Starngely enough, I've just bought a YN565EX which is a bit more expensive but has ETTL and makes life a bit easier.

Thank you all for your replies. I will try the Sanyo batteries and if that does not work then I will buy a new flash. Kev: I will look in to the unit that you have purchased. I don't mind paying a little more if I am getting what I pay for. Thanks again!!

@snaggy @k1w1 For what it's worth, now the clocks have gone back and we're all living in darkness in the UK, I am on the verge of buying the 565 and Eneloops too!
