I am thinking of buying a new camera, has anyone got one of these and if so what do you think about it

I have a D7100 - I upgraded my D50 to this about 8 months ago. For me since my D50 was older, the D7100 has a lot more features and screens than I get used to .. but I love it.

I've got it, it's very fast to focus, lovely handling and superb dynamic range...quite incredible the amount of detail you can pull out of it. I had a d90 before and it's a significant step up. On the downsides the processing times are quite slow and I can see some signs of noise at iso 400. I think to really get the best of it you prob need some good lenses, I just have the 18-105 and 50 at present. Overall I would def recommend.

@frantic Yes, it is my main camera, and I really couldn't ask for any better, pertainly at the price point. Cazla above talked about noise. @cazla With the exception, perhaps of the D610, and of course the D4, I have found it absolutely impressive at high ISO. There is digital noise in every single image ever shot with a digital camera, but some images especially those with a lot of even darker tone show it more than others. I am not sure what Kasla meant by "processing time." It is a tad slow to clear the relatively small buffers in continuous shooting mode, probably the only negative I can find after continuously using daily for 8 months. And yes, the camera really deserves far better lenses than the kit 18-105 for instance.

I have the D3100 which is the entry level model, it's easy to use and takes awesome photos. I can only imagine the D7100 is even better. It has a better processor and shutter speeds. You can't lose.

I replaced my D90 with the D7100 last year and it is a definite improvement but the 24 mp sensor is very demanding and you will need good glass and a steady hand (or tripod of course) to get the best out of it. As to the noise, it's significant after ISO 800 but can, of course, be treated if you shoot in raw. I can't comment on in-camera processing as I never shoot in JPEG. Hope this helps.

I've got the D7100. I also find it to do an impressive job with high ISO. I shot this at 1250, with my Nikkor 55-300 1:4.5-5.6, which is definitely not the very best lens but it's what I've got as far as zoom.

This one was at 3200 with my Sigma 17-50 f2.8.

The card can also impact how long the processing takes. I have recently tested different cards and there was a very obvious difference. One was 40 MB/s and the other was 90 MB/s. HUGE difference in speed.

Unless I want to upgrade to the D4, there is no reason this camera gives me to want to upgrade. It's been awesome for me. And I actually think I would replace my D5100, that I keep as a back-up, with another D7100, before I upgrade to anything else.

love it - upgraded from a d70 (no one has even heard of those they are so old!). Haven't even begun to learn all the capabilities -- find a new one every day. Most recent, putting a wifi enabled card in the 2nd slot and sending photos straight to my ipad.

I read somewhere (when I was trying to convince myself that I did the right thing) that this is a camera that you won't NEED to upgrade for many years -- I believe it.

love it love it love it

@frankhymus with processing times I meant the time to write to the card, esp in continuous shooting mode. In terms of noise I do think it is more prevalent then the canon I had but the handling of the nikon far outweighs this negative in my opinion.

I have the D7100 and I love it. My first camera (D7100) had a problem after 22,000 pics but I sent it back to Amazon and they gave me a full refund. It's a good job I shoot so many pics as it went after 7 months under warranty! However, my second D7100 which I've had since January has now shot over 9,000 pics without any trouble and I wouldn't want anything else. Like everyone else said, you do need good lenses and I mostly shoot with my 70-300mm lens as I'm into bird photography. The camera handles well and I shoot at quite ISOs sometimes because birds don't always stand in brightly lit places for me and I don't really have a lot of problems. Have a look at some of my pics and you will see what I mean if you look at the Exif Info. Take the plunge and you won't regret it I'm sure
