I hope I don`t come off as rude,because it`s not my intention.
This website is a lot like a diary,for the majority of members.It`s not just a simple place to where you show off your photos,it`s also documenting a year from your life.
When you complete your project,you look back,and even the stupidest/most silly/weak shots you`ve taken become unique.And often you will read the info below,and smile,thinking "ooh,thats what I was doing/going through on that day"...
I`ll skip straight to the point,now: if something happens,something unexpected,and the website would disappear for good,a lot of people would loose a big chunk of their lives.
My sugestion is,that after each member completes his year,the can somehow download his photos,in a calendar-format (maybe Adobe or Flash file?) ,wich includes the info written under the photos,as well.
This could be made available for Ace members only,or maybe even cost a couple bucks extra,because I know it wouldn`t be an easy thing to acomplish.
I know I sound silly,but it`s just my personal oppinion.
Not to be an ass but, wouldn't you have everything saved? If the site was to disappear you would have all your photos saved on a hard drive either internally on your computer or on an external hard drive.
Also printing wise I think it would be damn near impossible to have a printable calendar that includes all the text boxes and captions. The page would have to be incredibly huge, or the font incredibly small.
But if youwant all your texts saved open a word doc and copy and paste and have it just grow and grow. You could even paste a smaller sized version of the photo in the document.
I guess I'm just being a realist and can't figure a feasible way for that to work.
It would be lovely to have some kind of export of this at the end (and I'm still trying to work out my own way of keeping my pics and comments together offline) but I'd echo Chris' point above - if you're not backing up your stuff somewhere - start doing it now! I have them on my PC obviously, and then backed up on an external drive - and every time I upload to here, I also upload the same pic and info to my Flickr account.
@cadair8 I usually think the same as you when I see these threads, but then @jinximages does hit upon a rather splendid idea with the page-per-day calendar thing... I always forget those exist. That could be appealing even to me and I hate printing things more than I hate the wind (a lot).
@cadair8 I agree. Technically wouldn't it be difficult to accomplish with the commentary associated with each pic? Secondly, can't you just print each page using your browser?
I`m surprised at how many comments this thread received.
I know it would be a really hard thing to accomplish,and we could save them individually,too.
Here`s another,even more ludicrous idea: there would be new,more superior Ace-membership ("Ace-Pro"?),costing considerably more,and its main appeal would be that,at the end of the 365, they get a digital photo frame,containing the project. ...I know,I know,it`s way far-fetched,and Ross would need to do some serious expanding,even hire people and stuff.But it could double,triple his profit,or more!
An excellent idea and one I would certainly subscribe to! The fact that I am nearing my 365 :-) and wondering how to capture all my photos in hard copy, this would be brilliant. I am so glad also that you have commented on the fact that to many of us, this began and still continues to be a diary of a year in our lives. I am sorry that a lot of the essence has been lost in worries about top 20's and popular pages. Yes we want to improve and yes its a kick when people appreciate our photos but we didn't come here just to be popular did we?...
I had asked something similar with no response ... so I go through and copy and paste the month as a pic then tediously go back through each day and do the same. I wanted to improve my skills - that I have but unwittingly it has become a bit of a diary when it's important to me. @Scrivina - anything?
(okay,I guess we could use an image-capture software each day,like windows Snipping Tool,to save our uploaded image,but it would be quite an effort to people who dont have a lot of time on their hands)
I guess it just depends if Ross wants to get involved with outsourcing to other suppliers i.e.getting involved with printers and delivery etc - which can be a headache and fair enough if he doesn't.
I'd pay for it though :)
@spaceman Aside to that, I'd be happy with your original suggestion of some format where I could download all the 365 photos in order into one place, as I don't have copies of those I have changed in picnic after uploading :)
@artistmichelle
Same with me,most of the time I edit my shots only for "365",then delete it,and keep only the original.Allthough that might change once I`ll get better with editing software..

@spaceman I think it's a great idea, I guess it could look something like this;
http://www.teuteberg.com/dailycalendars/
Or in the UK Boots chemist do one like this, but I'm not sure how many daily photos are allowed http://www.bootsphoto.com/shop/calendars-and-diaries but, there are bound to be other companies that do it.
