Can someone look at my May 11 shot that is not a good shot at all but wanting to see what I am doing wrong to get a good clean smoke shot? Is it to much light on the background? I tried to set it up with one light on each side like yahoo says to do but it is still very bad. Any help appreciated.
@miata2u hey Peggy, my computer isn't cooperating very nicely right now and i can't find the youtube video tutorial i used when i did smoke shots...
however, when i did them, i used an off-camera flash, rather than just a light source... and i put "paddles" on either side of the flash to keep it from spilling out and lighting up the background...
looking at yours, it looks as tho' light was spilling onto the background and also that the shutter speed was a bit slow (it looks like you've caught some of the movement of the smoke)...
try going into youtube and searching for a smoke photography tutorial...

ok - that's the tutorial that i think i used...
smoke is one of those things that's a bit tricky - until you figure out the knack... and then it starts to seem pretty simple... good luck!!!
