Help w/ problem: iphoto or my camera?

November 22nd, 2010
So i had my canon eos 30d set to monochrome and was taking black and white pictures playing around with contrasts and when I downloaded them to my mac, iphoto changed them to color. What gives? Am I doing something wrong? I have never had this happen to me before. Is there something I can do to prevent it from happening?

Are you shooting in RAW? Cause you get everything with RAW, including colour, despite what you did on camera . :)

@kylapalin @alecio thanks that is exactly it. I do shoot in the raw. Thanks a lot! Glad it was something simple. =D

I think you meant you shoot raw as opposed to in the raw, which conjures up a colorful image. :)

Iphoto supports RAW? Thanks for the heads up.

I find Iphoto to be more of a pain than anything. To be honest I try and avoid importing anything into it.

@crappysailor do you use a mac? and if so what do you upload to. I really dont like iphoto either.

@hopeless - I copy the photos from the memory card, into individual folders. I like to organize my pictures in a way that makes sense to me. Iphoto (in my mind) isn't logical at all. You can turn off the option to auto upload to Iphoto. Then you can either connect your camera (or memory card) without Iphoto loading. From there its up to you. Like I said, I create folders for each event. Or in the case of 365, I have folders for each day/month, with the associated files.
