Bokeh?

December 4th, 2010
This may have been asked before but is it possible to get bokeh shots with a P&S? Seeing so many done with Christmas lights has given me inspiration but I can't work out how to do it.
I've only just started working out all the manual settings on it, I never touched them before starting 365 so bear with me if I have no idea about anything lol.

I'd love to know how to do it too.

Bokeh is possible because it's about how close you focus on something and how far the background lights are. The further the distance, the bigger the bokeh.

It's possible, although many will argue it pails in comparison to what you can achieve with a DSLR. There are many online articles about this subject. Here is one: http://www.booleansplit.com/?tag=point-and-shoot

@vikdaddy @ssmiley6017 Thanks for the help! And thank you so much for the link Stephen, that dumbed everything down for me lol. Now to wait till it's dark enough to give it another go and see how it goes :-)

The only way I could ever get any bokeh with my p&s was if I had it on the macro setting.

I think what I was doing wrong before was I didn't have something closer to focus on so it just didn't work, I did use macro though so I was halfway there.

Zoom into a christmas tree past the point it becomes blurry and bingo!

Yup, its possible. The macro setting is your friend.
