I feel bad for my old camera...

December 4th, 2010
I just got my first dslr today. I'm super excited, but I feel sorry for my old point and shoot because it's like I'm betraying it or something lol! The same thing happened when I replaced my mp3 player with an iPod. I felt guilty haha. Has anyone ever felt this way about their old technology?

Congratulations!

In my case, no not at all. I still use my P&S though not so very often now that I have my DSLR. I'm still very attached to it, seems like I can't live with only my DSLR by my side. :-)

That's so exciting, Jess! How are you liking it (besides that guilty feeling)? :)

I've felt like that about a lot of things, especially my stuffed animals lol, but not so much about my cameras. I think I don't feel very bad because I was still using my little camera, even after I got my big one. Both manual and point-and-shoot cameras good, just for different things... I try to carry my little camera around with me in my purse or whatever, so that it'll be right on hand when I want to point and shoot (and also so it won't feel rejected). :)

I only have DSLR's and wish I had a P&S at certain times. Don't pitch it. It will still serve you !

@jomarie @moncooga I'm l-o-v-i-n-g my DSLR!! And you're both exactly right..I've come to the conclusion that it will be just perfect to keep my P&S in my purse in case I need to snap a quick pic!

I actually don't take as many pictures as I used to before the dslr, which saddens me. Every time I see something, I kinda just leave it and think the result would be better if I had it with me, instead of the p&s cameras. I need to cut that out though.

I went through the exact same thing with my camera! My mom got a new camera and gave me her Nikon D80. I was reluctant to take it because I felt like I was betraying my D40. However, I've struck a balance because I've discovered that the D40 does better at higher ISO's so I use it for low-light photography.

I have actually run into this between my Nikon P90 p&s and my iPhone 4! I use my iPhone A LOT for my project and feel the need to ensure my Nikon gets equal time! LOL. I am actually considering continuing 365 for another year and doing it as an iPhone only project. Any thoughts?

Not at all. I think because my point and shoot was so awful I kicked the thing goodbye! and HELLO DSLR lol. Depends how reliable your p&s was I guess. But you can always use it now and again. I find it easier to bring along a p&s to some places where it might be a hastle to lug around a dslr.

You don't have to feel guilty! There are always times an SLR justisn't convenient, so carry your P&S in your handbag or coat pocket and then you'll always have a camera available. Sorted. :-)
