Lightroom 6 has been released!

April 21st, 2015
Am I the first to announce it here?

The standalone version's downloading to my Mac as I type this. MOST exciting!!!

I had trouble figuring out how to get the upgrade, so a nice guy named Kenneth at Adobe provided me with the necessary info:

J: Just wondering if there's an upgrade price from Lightroom 4 to 6, or if I have to pay full price?
K: Yes, you have an option to upgrade from Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 6 at just $79.00
J: Oh cool! Where do I do that?
K: Let me help you with that. Here is the direct link.
K: Click the above link to place the order.
K: Click on Buy next to Photoshop Lightroom.
K: Change I want to buy as "Upgrade"
J: Thank you! have a great day.
K: Let me know if you face any issue I'll standby to help you with download steps as well.

No issues arose. :^)

cool - tx for the news! i'll have to check this out tonight when i have some time... any idea what's new and different in 6 as compared to 5?
April 21st, 2015
The main big things are evidently speed, HDR merge, panorama merge, facial recognition, and finer control over the graduated filter. There are I guess a lot of new bells and whistles involved with their $9.99/month "Creative Cloud" stuff, too... too rich for my blood.

I'd just never upgraded to 5, though, and thanks to a bit of advice from @darylo a couple of months ago, I waited this out. So I'm in for all KINDS of new treats I guess. @northy

downloading LR CC right now.

Panorama merge! 5 has a lot to offer over 4. I'll check out 6, though. Thanks.

The thing that I may be most excited about is the pano merge and HDR merge available in LR 6. Now I won't have to round trip to PS to do these precesses and to top that off LR 6 will merge these into a RAW file which is huge. Now you can, for example, merge to panorama then decided if you need to change the white balance to the overall image. Most of my images will still end up in PS but this will be a big time saver and will allow for more flexibility.

Just installed LR CC and so far it looks really good. I had one problem after the program was installed I tried to launch it and it immediately crashed, if this happens to you the solution is to go the the CC app and go to preferences and sign out then sign back in then the program will run. It has something to to with the license code not being recognized until you log out and log back in. Just thought that I would mention this and maybe save someone else a headache if it happens to you.
This would obviously only apply if you are using the CC version and not the stand alone version.

I just got 5 about a month ago. UGH! LOL

tx... i'm on the cloud and thought i had LR on the cloud, but according to the info on my adobe account, possibly not... trying to contact them to find out and of course their help page isn't loading... likely in use by everyone else with questions about the LR6 :D
April 21st, 2015
@psmoore I would call them and say "no fair" and ask for a discount. :)

LR updates don't agree with my computer. I always have my own IT people install it. Saves me the trouble of having to call them after! Not sure why, but I don't even download updates without them.

watching tutorial on creative live definitely going to upgrade after seeing it in action!

Mine is working a treat... The pano feature is slower than PS but I do like the idea of tagging people using face.

The only problem is that you need to confirm each of them... I am sure there must be a way to accept all of them and just come back and deselect the ones where it stuffed it up.

Info about LR6 popped up when I opened Lightroom this morning. The features such as HDR and panorama stitching look great, but from what I can tell they are only available if you subscribe to CC. I have LR as a standalone program (LR5) and don't really want Photoshop - I have an old version of Elements and don't use it much.
Does anybody know whether the option to just upgrade to LR6(with features) without CC is or will be available at some point?
Or should I bite the bullet and try Photoshop?!!
April 22nd, 2015
@sue_s you can buy lightroom 6 as a stand alone program. If you own LR 5 it will be the standard upgrade price. It is a little confusing but Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC are the same program, Lightroom 6 is stand alone and Lightroom CC is the Subscription. The only difference is Lightroom CC integrates with adobes new mobile apps.
April 22nd, 2015
@northy You do need to install it from the Adobe Creative Cloud applet. if you haven't, it's just a click.
April 22nd, 2015
@frankhymus and therein lies the problem... I had lr5 as a standalone when i subscribed to the ps/lr cloud combo... So now online, Adobe is only recognizing my ps subscription... Couldn't get thru on the call centre yesterday to get it sorted... Can't seem to send an email for help because they ask me to sign in to my account and then don't recognize it because, I think, I'm in Canada (ya - I know it makes no sense... But when you sign in there's a thing at the bottom of the screen that asks you to confirm your region... I can sign in for Canada to manage my account, but when I want to get to the help pages, it asks me to sign in again and then doesn't recognize me... On that page the region shows as U.S., and I couldn't change it...

@digitalrogue Thank you for the explanation, when I read "Mobile capabilities and feature updates are only available when you get Lightroom as part of the Creative Cloud Photography plan" I thought it meant that you couldn't just update the standalone any more, but I can see where you're able to do this now. Don't think I'll be investing just yet but it does look good!

@northy i also had LR5 on my laptop... i could go online and download it but it didnt open properly. I had to sign out of my accoutn and back in before it worked.

Just to be sure, you may want to restart your computer first, see if that works and then sign out / sign back into adobe to see if this works
