We are off to Vienna for five days, any tips on what we must to see and do, any insider knowledge out there? 'The only thing on my 'Must see List' is Gustav Klimt's work, thank you in anticipation x

I vaguely remember a large yellow castle in Vienna that was very cool, but it was so many years ago that we were there that's all I remember.

My husband worked in Vienna for 18 months before retiring and suggests the following. They are known tourist destinations and you may well know about them already, so perhaps not quite what you are after if you're looking for something a bit more off the beaten track, but here they are just in case :

Stephansdom (St. Stephen's cathedral)
The museum quarter - includes art galleries as well
The Rathaus (town hall) for its architecture
The Prater - a large, permanent funfair (the ferris wheel has featured in The Third Man and a Bond movie)

The First District (the centre of Vienna, which includes Stefansdom and the Rathaus) is attractively illuminated at night if you like night photography or fancy trying your hand at it.

He highly recommends purchasing 5 day, U-Bahn tickets. They cover all travel in the city on the underground, trams and buses and he says they are very good value for money.

Hope these ideas help. Have a wonderful holiday.

I've been there several times, but it was years ago.
The Spanish Riding School with the famous Lipizzaner horses.
Schonbrunn Palace, of course.
If you enjoy music, you might see if you can get tickets to hear the Vienna choir boys.
Oh, the photo opportunities anywhere in the city! Enjoy!
