Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but does it weird anyone else out that that nowadays the spot next to our pictures where it explains which camera was used to take the shot is a link to the Amazon page for the camera? I'm not super comfortable with the fact that the price of my camera is right there. Perhaps it's just the idea of posting photos which show roughly where I am in any given 24 hours and having the cash value of what I'm carrying so easy to work out for anyone with an internet connection.
@brightness Seems easy enough to work out without the link, since the EXIF data has always been displayed anyway (which includes the camera model). If you're feeling paranoid, I suggest removing the EXIF before you upload. The link is because Ross gets money form Amazon if someone buys something due to linking from his site, which in turn helps keep this site up and running.
And if you're posting enough info that someone could track you down to steal your camera, well, there a whole lot worse issues to consider in that case, than losing a camera.
@brightness i'm shooting with a Lumix and the Amazon pic for me is a Canon...it may be a coincidence you shoot with the chosen camera (or someone is trying to tell me my camera is rubbish!!)
Also, if anyone does not want this information shown (EXIF and camera information), and have photoshop, when you save the image, click "Save for Web" and it will not save the information.
If I'd actually thought about the fact that its obviously revenue-raising, I wouldn't've bothered y'all, you're quite right. Whatever Ross (& co) needs to do to make this website and his life run smoothly is fine!
i had the same reaction as you at first. I agree, it's linked because the owners of the site get credit for purchases made by Amazon when someone clicks that links and buys something. I haven't take stesp to remove my EXIF. I just dont' have the time to do it - and really I don't care i someone is making a little money to run the site, i am sure it's not an inexpensive site to run.
