I live in Portland, Oregon, so I'm as stuck as you are. I was thinking of getting some glass objects and experimenting with depth of field. It might be a time to learn about indoor lighting, I don't know. There is a book people recommend called Photo Index of Ideas, or something like that, that is supposed to inspire. I might look into that.
play with self portraits..... on Flickr there is a group called My Face is My Canvas, http://www.flickr.com/groups/facecanvas/
Just don't go out in the rain in ur makeup!! lol
@robynelizabeth almost never wear makeup so no worries there!

Possibly it's because I'm overly concerned about my SLR, I've had cameras get wet before (in Haifa had the Mediterranean drench me and my little olympus at the time, for two days all my photos had a rather 'nice' diffusion filter applied by default). but I'm not going out in the rain unless I can help it, or figure out a raincoat hack for my camera.
Try some inside macro shots of various subjects! I've got a few on my project if you care to browse through....It's amazing what cool pictures you can take by just thinking outside the box a little. For example, a close up of a computer motherboard, texture of pavement or fabric, the inside of a lightbulb, ect. Just let your imagination run wild! Hopefully something like this will help you get through the boring rain until it clears up again.. :)
use the plastic bag rain cover... I could see you one for $150.... if you are a bit of a do it yourself... take a plastic bag from the store... tear a small hole just big enough for your lens, screw the hood over it... stick you head in the open side of the bag and it is the best water proof system ever....
@icywarm but you want me to stick my head in a plastic bag O.O *lol*!!!
ya, found this http://www.naturephotographers.net/es0601-1.html
trying to emulate, but with a clear plastic bag so I can still see the viewfinder a bit yet leave it all sealed up so I'm not actually sticking my head in a plastic bag.
Havent got a hood >.> don't yell! trying to see if I can make do with a filter. would be good to have a spare UV filter at this point. Sadly I went the square filter route, trying to sandwich the bag between round UV and square filter holder without losing too much in image quality.
I take a shopping bag and wrap it around my camera, and poke a hole for the viewfinder. No sticking of the head in the bag for me! I do have proper Rain Sleeves, but grabbing a shopping bag is much quicker and easier. I've shot in heavy downpours for hours like this with no issues, except my filter fogging up due to the humidity. Newer DSLRs are more weather sealed than you'd think.

thanks both. forecast is still calling for showers and storms. I'll see how it goes. Worst case it gets sealed back up in a plastic bag in the backpack under a raincoat and I use the P&S in a ziploc bag!
@icywarm Yep, the debate did come up when I was given my xmas P&S. Since we just rebuilt our boat, and are both certified divers, and have kayaks we do tend to spend a lot of time around the water, time I cant have my cameras. I probably will for the next one.

I don't actually stick my head in the bag, just kinda set it on the rim of my hat...
