I'm on the verge of buying one - is it the right decision?

I think I know the answer to this but it's a lot of money for something I only do as a hobby!

I have a 5D and I love it! Also had the 30D which I loved, too, but, decided to upgrade and haven't regretted it at all. I am a hobbyist that occasionally gets paid for my work. That's how I justified it! Good luck with your decision!

Hey Emma, i've only got a 450D but I think if you love this as a hobby, have the money and are happy to spend it, go for it! Please take this advice with a pinch of salt seeing that my other hobby is coffee and lets just say i've got kit thats well above what most people consider as rational :)

Haha... well, a few other things will have to go on hold, like the new sofa I meant to get and whatnot but a new sofa won't bring me as much glee as a 5D will :)

Emma,

I bought the 5DMKII last May, and while I'll agree it's a lot of money it's worth every penny. I'll caution you that it will put your glass to the test, so if you don't have the right quality of lenses, you should make your investment there first.

That's the one downside to that sexy full frame sensor, it will show you every weak spot your glass has.

On the upside if your nice glass is a little slow, the 5DMKII has you covered considering its ISO performance is spectacular.

And regarding the sofa, if you are shooting enough it would be empty most of the time anyway.

If your glass is in order and the budget allows ... /ADDTOCART /OVERNIGHTSHIPPING :D

Hope that helps,
Mike

Thanks Mike. I have a fair few good lenses, though I am slightly concerned about a wide angle that has a poorly fitting lens cap (why do Sigma do that?) and ended up with a few scratches. It's ok on my 400d but I do worry what will happen on full frame. We'll see!

I think this purchase is inevitable at some point, it may as well be now!

I say go for it!
Mike has some great, and valid points, but..........

and yes, the sofa can wait :)
