Do you prefer black & white or color?

I like both but I must admit that I do feel drawn to black and white or selective color shots. Not sure what it is that draws me in but they feel somehow vintage. So which do you prefer?

For me it really depends on the image. Some photos don't look good black and white while others look better b&w. Selective color is never really my thing.

It really really depends.

@foursides I'm with ya on the selective coloring thing!

I'm usually drawn to B&W also. I think it can sometimes make an otherwise boring photo, pop.

I like vintage/sepia, and also black and white when the depth is there. Sometimes color is necessary though!

@positronicmommy i agree it really depends on the image and you want to present it. b and w always gives drama to the image..

Generally, I prefer b/w with film images when I have dark room access. With digital, which I haven't quite gotten comfortable with, I like color.

Color! Unless we're talking Ansel Adams. :-)

For my own photography, I generally work in colour. I don't know why, but converting to B&W just doesn't occur to me most of the time. o.O

With photography in general, I really don't have a preference. If an image connects with me it doesn't matter if it's colour, B&W, sepia, HDR, or whatever. Colour (or lack thereof) is only one part of what makes an image work for me.

I love B&W. Love it.

I prefer colors that look soft and slightly desaturated (as obvious as it is from my photo album).
January 13th, 2011
I LOVE B&W!! I do both, but when I am taking photos with a artistic feel I tend to shoot in B&W.

well color because I personally find it more challenging to edit in color - wheras with B&W my conversions are pretty fast and easy. But with color there are just so many different ways I can process a shot and getting white balance right and skin tones, it's always more challenging so I try not to make it too easy on myself by doing alot of B&W conversions.

It really depends on the composition. Vintage and city scapes look good in black and white, but scenery and macro look better in color. Just my opinion.

B&W if done correctly always catches my eye. I love it. off topic lol but same with tattoos...only like the black and gray
January 13th, 2011
Depends on the shot - some photos look great in b&w while others really look better in colour.

I LOVE BLACK AND WHITES!!!!! i think that'd be my forte... hihihiiihihihi
January 13th, 2011
I prefer my own photos to be color but I do enjoy b&w (when done by others, haha).

I'm not so sure about selective coloring anymore. It really just depends.

I prefer color, as that is what I've grown up with and always have taken. Though some pictures I've seen on here are b&w, and might make me think twice when I get over not my strong habit of not modifying my shots.
January 13th, 2011
i guess i prefer color. for me b&w is intentional and i do like to experiment with it in processing. i should work with it more i think.
January 13th, 2011
It depends. I general take the picture in color then in black and white and pick which one catches my eye more.
January 13th, 2011
I love B&W but it only works with the right pic in my opinion. I do the same as Amanda Taylor says and take it in both then decide which I prefer.

It depends. I like the vintage look of B & W in some photographs. I also like vibrant color in some shots, especially in my flower shots.
