Watermarks?

I need to make some type of watermark because I'm thinking about putting some photos on a stock photo website. Any advice on creating one?

I think most people use Photshop but I am Photoshop illiterate so I just use Picnik.com and add text or a "sticker". Picnik is a partially free site, using the text feature is free. http://www.picnik.com/app

I use Adobe Lightroom for editing - that has a built in option for watermarking;

On advice on making a watermark?
- Make sure its prominent (You can see it)
- Uncroppable (so those pesky buggers can't cut your watermark and keep the pic)
- Linked to you in some way (i've seen some linked to their smugmug page "xx.smugmug")

Mind you I don't take my pictures too seriously: but @jasonbarnette could probably fill you in a bit better than I

When it comes to stock photo sites, they usually have a built-in way on the site to watermark your photos. If you upload a watermarked photo, no one will want to buy it. They want a clean photo when they pay money for it. Explore the stock photo site and see if they have this option.

If not, let me know and I'll help you come up with a good one. Do you have Photoshop?

@jasonbarnette No, I don't have Photoshop. I use Picnik. I looked at the website I was thinking about using (istockphoto.com) and I decided I'm not going to join.
I would still like to get a watermark though...

@kelseyyx23 Kelsey, Picnik is kinda limited as to what it can do for watermarks. What I'd suggest is that you just add "Photo Copyright Kelsey Schmitt" or just your name with the copyright symbol "©" in the bottom-right corner. Choose a nice font, and make it an off-white color. Of course, if you have a nearly-full white photo, you'll have to change the color.
