Memory Card Help

January 24th, 2011
Within the last week I got a Nikon Coolpix P100 camera. Separately I purchased a Lexar multi-use SDHC 8 GB memory card. Things have been going well until tonight. Each time I attempted to put the memory card into my computer, my monitor turned black and I was unable to do anything aside from turn the computer off. Has anyone else had this happen or have any suggestions as to how I can stop it from happening again?

Thanks!

Is this happening when you connect your pc with other hardware? and are you using a card reader ? or straight into the pc port?
could be that your monitor cable is loose and for some reason when you push the card in , it knocks the cable???

try leaving your card inside your camera and connecting your camera to your PC via the cable that should be included when you bought it. Also, if you have any other memory cards try them too. My feeling is that it's your PC, and any card will do the same thing.

If it still happens, let us know.

@vikdaddy I have a couple of flash drives that set off a BSOD when removed, could be something similar but it's likely the computer...

I'm with Vikdaddy. Have you cleaned your hard drive lately? That is something else I would try.

@nikkers - This problem only happens when I put this memory card into the computer. I am putting the memory card straight into the computer. The computer I am using is a laptop so there are no cables for the monitor.

@vikdaddy -I will attempt to transfer photos via connecting the camera to the computer and see how that works. The camera I was using prior to this was a Canon Powershot A400 which also used a memory card & I never had any problems with that card, so maybe it's just the card I have although this card was on the approved list that came in my new camera's manual. Thanks for your suggestions!

@capemayblackdog - I have never cleaned my hard drive. My computer is a little over a year old. I will look into doing so and see if that makes any difference. Thanks for the suggestion!
