Help with presets

This is probably going to be a stupid question, but I need help installing the presets on my computer. I have a Mac and to install an action, you just have to click on it and it does it automatically. Not so much with the presets. I have a friend that saved a bunch of presents on my computer, but I can't figure out how to use them. She has a PC. Would that make a difference? As in, when you buy them, do you have to specify which one you want to download? It has .xmp after it, so when I click on it, it just brings up a text file. Anyone have any suggestions? They are really great presets that I would love to play with, but I'm having no luck :( Thanks in advance!!

Hi Alissa - Not a stupid question at all. What you need to do is drag the file into the program (I use Aperture). The presets are so much fun!

What are these presets you speak of?
I use Lightroom, can they be used with that?

@kirsterellie Hi Kirsty - google Lightroom + presets and you'll find all kinds of great stuff!

I use CS5 on PC and I had to drag the file into:
user
app data
roaming
adobe
camera raw
settings


ALTERNATIVELY each time you use camera raw you click on the 'drop down' menu on presets tab and load ....

I've been using Photoshop CS3 on Mac...can I use them in there? I don't have Aperture on my computer. How much is it? Thanks everyone!!
