What kind of artist are you?

February 26th, 2011
Wanted to start something like Browse and Pick, where we each look through one another's pics. Instead of just picking a photo, we should also write a single sentence describing their body of work.

Many of us started the project to become better photographers, and a big part of being a photographer is having a style and an obsession. Do we focus on kids, action, intense colors, processing? Do our pictures focus on nature, compassion? Are the pics funny?

If Ansel Adams was an environmentalist and "Romantic" B/W photographer of the American Western landscape, who are we? Sometimes it takes others to show us something about ourselves.

The first person will need to start with me. All the others will write about the person who posted the last pic and wrote the descriptive sentence. Just like Pick and Browse.

Pick one photo that exemplifies your ideas about this particular "365er," and copy the code from the share box and include your sentence.

If two people respond to the same person, I will comment at the end of the post. I will wrap up things when the post looks like it is coming to an end, and start another in a month.

Are you game? (Tomorrow I will have a discussion where you post your own pick and write your own sentence about yourself. It will be called simply "What kind of artist are you? part 2")

@smapp Ok, I'll give it a try, I'm always in for something new, fun idea!

He is a photographer as wel as a craftsman. He thinks in theme's, the picture below is one of a series of 7 (?) about apples and paper. The pictures are not only aiming for beauty, but mainly about showing something different.

Is this what you had in mind?
February 26th, 2011
@geertje Perfect response. I appreciate everything you said. I especially like the comment about being a craftsman, because I always wanted to be seen that way, but never thought anyone would. I also like your comments about beauty and being different. Did you get that from my pictures or my bio?
February 26th, 2011
@smapp I got that from your pictures, you do things everybody else does, but also stuff almost nobody thinks of.
February 26th, 2011
@geertje That is so nice to know, because it is one of my statements from my bio. This little excercise is nice because it can show you how on target you are with your goals, or help you discover something new about your art. Thanks for participating.

All right everybody it is geertje's turn. Sombody help her out. What kind of artist is she?

Amy
I'll give this a whirl, so next would be Geertje (@geertje)...

She is a photographer with an eye for the particulars. Her focus on the beautiful is found in things we may look at every day but don't truly see.

February 26th, 2011
@pprmntmochamama Seems to focus on the small things in daily life that can be beautiful and interesting. You can tell her family is a large focus in her life.

February 26th, 2011
@geertje @pprmntmochamama Thanks Amy, I also think geertje also has a strong affinity for nature.
February 26th, 2011
@pprmntmochamama @lolanae Thanks Brandle. I like Amy's well lit shots and her warm pallete.
February 26th, 2011
@lolanae i suppose Brandie is a story teller kind of photographer. Almost every picture has a personal touch to it.. rather than "setting it up" approach for the project :)
February 26th, 2011
@lolanae Brandie I get the impression you love colour, and that colour jumps out to you. You use a wonderful mix of colour, nature and youth. It's clear to see that you have a wonderful playful time with your children and this project is mixing that love with your love of capturing a moment with colour included into it. You are all about fun :o)
February 26th, 2011
@lolanae @michelleyoung @sheetalthakker Like Andrew Wyeth the painter, many of us focus on our immediate suroundings, friends and family. I think Brandie does this too.
February 26th, 2011
@smapp @pprmntmochamama Thanks for affirming what I also have set as my goal. I change a bit, doing some selfies, but this is absolutely what I am in photography.
February 26th, 2011
@michelleyoung So true. I'm a total color nut. (Which is also odd cause I love Black and White photography. lol) My daughter is a huge focus of my world, and a lot of the shots have been her and I dreaming up something. I tell her she's my assistant. =)
February 26th, 2011
@sheetalthakker Since there were two responses to Brandle I will comment on Sheetal. Sheetal uses a warm color pallete of browns, orange, red and yellow, to show closeups, and well composed images of her everyday life, and culture.

I would say it was a pleasure looking through the work of this artist who from my perspective has eyes always open, seeking, and looking for what life has in store for her in terms of a capture to share...nice balance of work and the most striking of which for me was the creativity of showcasing the capture...a lot of close up perspective and as I said before a nice balance of themes but really loved the creative abstract body of work, close ups, and focus on shadowplay/textures etc...

Amy
@lolanae ~ Wow, you are spot on... it's overwhelming to think of all that can be portrayed through a simple photograph. I thought it would be easier to focus on that which was important to me, finding joy in the little things.
@smapp ~ Thank you so much for the compliment. I am a complete novice and get such a rush when you talented folks take a second to gander at my attempts.
February 26th, 2011
@loztsoul Trevor, I am flattered by your comments and observations, thank you so much :o)
February 26th, 2011
Hmm, I'm interested in doing this, but not sure what I am supposed to do. :)
February 26th, 2011
Amy
@rmcbuckeye ~ you would go to Trevor's project and look at his photos. Then you would chose one that you think really shows what type of artist he is, coupled with a short synapses of the photographer. For example, if I were to do you...

A person who is buzzing with energy. Even the quiet moments have a charge to them. Rachel is a lover of life and even the most usual of things become an adventure.
February 26th, 2011
@michelleyoung it was a pleasure your art was absolutely wonderful!
February 26th, 2011
@loztsoul I love this thread. What a great idea :o)

Trevor, I enjoyed looking at your photos and deliberately didn't check out your profile because I thought that may detract from what I may glean from your photos so here goes. I believe you to be extremely fun loving, you certainly don't take yourself or your photography seriously. Your pics are vibrant and full of life and I'd suggest you have a child because there are some beautiful pics of a little girl in your album so a daughter/grandaughter (forgive me if I've seriously aged you :oS) I've chosen this photo as it really made me laugh but you have many along similar lines which are very amusing. Thanks for the opportunity for me to see them :o)

Im not sure if Im doing this right its late well early Im tired well my body is my brain isnt...

@psychographer has some fantastic photos which capture detail very well, This one in particular caught my eye because of the detail and lovely colours too.

February 27th, 2011
@psychographer thank you and glad you enjoyed my photos :) and I have four wonderful children and love to sneak them in a photo when I can hehe
February 27th, 2011
Been 7 hours so you may continue to comment if you like but I am starting part 2 of this thread where you comment on your own art work.
February 27th, 2011
Lisa seems to be a photographer after my own heart. She's interested in more than just whats in a photo but after something else - an indefinable something that creates feeling / emotion / beauty even in the simple things. She's convinced that this is found in contrast of both colours and themes and knows that there's something.. just something in the darkness of photos.

February 27th, 2011
@toast Thanks Weng :) Very true :)
February 27th, 2011
@lisahutchinson lol sounds like you and I have been playing around in the same ideas box
February 28th, 2011
@geertje @pprmntmochamama @lolanae @sheetalthakker @michelleyoung @loztsoul @psychographer @lisahutchinson @toast Thanks everyone. Good discussion on what kind of artist we are. I know it helped me formulate my reponse to my own work , in part two of the discussion.
February 28th, 2011
@toast From looking at Wengs album I think he enjoys taking photos of what he see's daily, friends, family and pets.

February 28th, 2011
@toast Will go have a look at Your Photos :)
February 28th, 2011
@lisahutchinson lol hope you enjoy them :)
You should be able to see a progression as time went on through last year. I shot with a mix of my iPhone, Canon ixus 100 and Canon 450D (rebel)
