My camera has broken, and I'm contemplating whether to repair it (waiting for a budget) or buy a new one. Is there a way to search by camera model, so I can see other pictures made with the cameras I have in mind? Thanks
I'd think it'd be awesome if this site had a camera search, the pulled up recent images from each camera, based on the camera in the exif data, and not the tags. Not sure how much work it'd take, and I'm sure Ross is busy with other things.
Flickr does have a page like this, but it shows the most 'interesting' photos from every camera, so you're not seeing normal, average photos from each camera. https://www.flickr.com/cameras
Good luck on your camera hunt. What broke on it? Have you gotten a quote on the repair?
@sudweeks Thanks for your answer. I remembered the old blog page, that's why I thought there might be something similar. I'll look on flickr, even if it's the best photos, I can get an idea of what different cameras can do.
As for my camera, I have no idea what happened. I was on a trip, it was working perfectly. I turned it off and when I turned it on agan it didn't recognise the lens. At first I thought it was the lens's fault, but when I came home and tried with another lens, the same happened. The weird thing is it doesn't recongise the kit lenses (olympus), but I have a panasonic one and it works with it. Really strange.
I asked for a quote for repairs, I'm waiting for it. The problem is the camera is a (some years old) olympus. Olympus does not make cameras any more, finding spare parts is hard and, even if they are found, they probably won't be new, but come from anotehr discarded camera.
@monicac - If the camera will recognize one lens but not others, it's very likely an issue with the contacts. Try a Q-tip with rubbing alcohol. I use 99% Isopropyl alcohol, and disconnect the battery when I do it. Clean the contacts of both the camera and the lens, wait for them to dry, which should be quick, then connect everything and try again.
Also make sure your battery is fully charged. I've seen low batteries cause camera issues before.
@sudweeks Thanks for the idea... I've tried, but it still doesn't work. I'm thinking the problem is with the lenses, some kind of planned obsolescence (some people on a differnet forum had the same problem, it was the lens).
@allsop Indeed! In fact, I'm thinking of buying a new lens in the next sale, see if it works. If not, I'll definitely need a new kit.
