Any little tips please.

Tomorrow i'm off to Duxford where I'm hoping to take some pics of my dad who will be flying a tigetmoth. I'm still trying to get used to my Birthday prezzy (my camera) & thought this might be a bit of an opprtunity to play. I have a Panasonic Lumix G2 with a 14-42 lens. Hopefully he wont be going too high so that i can picture him in the air. If anyone has any tips i'd be really grateful.
Thanx

Well this will be tricky, lucky for you he won't be super high with a bi-plane like the tiger moth. However your 14-42 is a pretty wide angle lens so you won't be zooming in a whole lot. Just make sure you are setting your camera to decent/fast shutter speed and you should be alright. Just have him make a couple low pases if you can :).

I routinely photography air shows, though I'll admit I do it mostly just cause photographers get wicked seats closer to the flight line than anyone else!

I've photographing several bi-planes and other aerobatics during air shows, and usually at a range of 180-300mm. I have a 180mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/2.8 that I use for airshows, and these seem pretty good.

Sorry to say...at 42mm maximum focal range he'll be nothing more than a spot in the frame. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you'd need at least 100mm to be able to fully capture his plane.

Thanx both! Well we had a fab day and i got a couple of distant shots. I also used dads camera which has a better range than mine so got some good shots for him to remember his flight! x
