Any smugmug users out there, thoughts, tips, suggestions

I have it, and I love it. It does not allow copying of your photos. You can customize it any way you want (their templates, or a pro web design). It is unlimited storage too. I have public images, and also ones that no one else can see unless Iet them.

Mine is simple, but check it out:

@moncooga thanks I will do that! Can I ask what kind of account you have?

@mkraemer I use the Pro account, as I also sell some things, and it is easier through an outside lab.

I am not a tech savvy person, and I figured out how to configure it, make web banners, etc (all a first for me) and I made it through ok. So, if I can do it, anyone can. Trust me on that!

I use it also. Their print lab is AWESOME. I haven't sold anything yet -- just getting it set up now, but I did a print that I wanted for myself to see how it worked, time it took, pricing, shipping, etc. and I was very pleased. I ordered an 8x10 on a Thursday and got it on the following Monday for about $8 including shipping. I love that you can set your own prices.

@sdpace I did the same thing. It helps to now what to expect. I know that you have to be careful with some images in different sizes, due to cropping. That is my only worry.

I have my site through them as well (www.autumneden.com) and use Bay Photo for my printing. LOVE them both! Chris also mentioned the concern regarding cropping... I have found that if the image is too small or the resolution is not good enough, they will display a warning next to sizes that may not print well. I just have mine setup to not display these if they will not print well and don't upload anything too small. I have also have a business day of proofing setup so I can check my customer's crop to make sure that it is how I would have cropped it for them just in case. I have a lot of Hipstamatic shots on my site which are square but I have some them as 11x14 with no issue. I have had several sales now and not one complaint. =D

I have my site hosted on them! I have a Pro account. I've used it to sell digital downloads of photos, but never prints (yet).

I use it only as my main back-up online for my photos - have been generally impressed although had some hiccups with their new uploading functionality recently. I recently somehow mislaid an album of pics from my PC and I was able to retrieve all the pics from Smugmug quite easily - they basically emailed me a zipped folder with them all in.

us it and love it so far.... have the pro account as it is inexpensive and gves the most bang for your buck. Love the right click protection... was the main reason I chose smugmug.

Just bumping this up. Is everyone still happy with smugmug? I'm thinking of putting some stuff out there.

I've had it for two years as my photo site, and still happy! Gets a bit expensive (I have a pro account), but I like the photo protect features (it at least keeps the stupid people from getting them), automatic watermark embedding, selling platform, etc. I really don't ever see myself changing from it.

@hmgphotos Thanks for the info!

@autumnseden What about you?

@jjsooner Still happy and don't see myself leaving them anytime soon. I renew in November and just had my biggest month with more than 5000 views on my site! The $150 for a pro account/year is a bit expensive but it is about the average from what I have seen.

I have it, too, and have been really happy with it... I haven't had as much traffic as I would like, but that is for lack of self-promotion! ;) I started it to sell nature / landscape type stuff. But since then, I started doing portraits, and I love it for that, too, since I can put the images on a password protected gallery and only my clients (and anyone they allow) can see the photos. I've ordered from them myself and love the quality. I have had quite a few people order portraits from them, and never a single compliant!

Feel free to check it out if you'd like. www.sacred-snapshots.com --> Mine is not super fancy, but it gets the job done.
