Which, in theory, should allow me to reproduce the effects from a Holga camera via my Canon. This would be fab as I love the Iphone Hipstamtatic app, and the app is based around the Holga and similar toy cameras.
Has anyone got one of these lenses at all? Be great to see some photos if so, and to hear if they are worth the money (not v expensive BUT then I havent got a lot of money currently!!).
It may be a little dearer, but the Lensbaby system comes with a plastic optic that emulates the toy camera lenses somewhat. It also does tilt (without the shift) and a bunch of other cool stuff, too. http://www.lensbaby.com
@kirsterellie hat was the cheapest one I found in the UK - ebay seemed a lot more expensive...
@brizmako hiya, thanks will check out the lensbaby...depends on how much more expensive it is. I'm on another site (ephotozine) and a few members use the lensbaby on there with fab results...
@looseimages - I have a diana lens for my nikon, and the effect is...hmm...similar to that of the original diana in as much as it can be. I don't think that it will really look like holga photos, but it will certainly give your pics a more "plastic" feeling. You could also make something yourself that would give you similar results. If you take the plastic top (obviously clear) off of any container, and hold it in front of your lens, it will degrade your image quality.
Based on my diana lens, I would say if you have the money get it. Its fun to play around with. But to be honest, I'd rather actually just use my diana.
The only photo in my project that I've used the lens on my DSLR. Sorry I don't have more to offer. Let us know what you decide!
The thing with the Holga is half of the stuff isn't due to the lens that gives photos the signature look. Don't see how a DSLR will light leak, have the back fall off, or do double exposures without changing settings. And DSLRs can actually focus. And then there's the whole film issue...
I've been tempted to get one myself, then I remember I have a real Holga and tons of film... and my Holga is actually well built, so I often get very nice images from it, so not sure why I wouldn't want to take crappy digital photos that are suppose to look like a camera that doesn't really look like that (at least mine). Maybe if I have the extra money someday, but right now it goes into buying film/processing.
