Not sure about the problem with Live View, but mine sometimes says it can't format the card. It's easy enough to fix though - turn off, remove the card, put it back in, turn on. Should be fixed. Not sure why live view wouldn't work, maybe your battery is too low?
same thought too... did turn off the cam, put in a new fully charged batt, and SD card... but the problem still exist... worst, the shutter seems to be opening and closing in the same speed regardless of the setting.

Horray... of all miracle... this is really shiok...
I took out the battery, SD card and left the camera overnight...
Somehow, it seems like the hardware just suddenly starts to function properly again....
finally got back my cam from nikon service center...
for those who have purchased the D5000 and yet to enter the Nikon clinic, pls do so as there is some manufacturing fault with this and need some hardware upgrade...
