Ok So I currently use Smugmug but am looking to change my venue now that I will be adding pricing and such...

I know I can get a skin for my Smugmug page Circa $399 and upward.. just not sure I should. I am wondering if I should just get a new site? Any opinions out there?

Also this is what my current Smugmug looks like.. http://www.theuglycat.com/

Any opinion would be appreciated :)

Thanks in advance! :)

I use Photoshelter and I'm very impressed with it, but I would also suggest Zenfolio. I don't know about the pricing for Zenfolio, so I'll just tell you about Photoshelter.

It's $30 a month, and you have a slew of free custom layouts to use. The nice thing about these layouts is that you can have so many ways to customize them you can still maintain a unique look to your page.

$300 for just a single skin is pretty steep. Photoshelter gives you about a dozen with almost endless customizations.

Zenfolio operates about the same way, but I think it turns out to be cheaper in the long run.

Umm... you can find TONS of stuff for smugmug for free... no need to pay $399 for layouts. SmugMug lets you do lots of customization yourself, and if you either know CSS or can copy and paste, you can make it completely custom for free. There's a good forum they link to off of the smugmug help pages where people post their code for stuff.

You're making smugmug sound like you have to pay for layouts, which is completely untrue...

I dunno. I have Smugmug Pro, with pricing, and I have no complaints. Skins? C'mon. Seriously. If you need all that stuff to mask your work like ketchup, then you doubt your work.

Seriously, if you sell your work, don't have buyers focus on your site and all the "pretty" crap in the background. They are supposed to focus on your images. Why divert them with patterns and junk?

Hey, I have been doing some research on a template, and I think I will be going with bludomain or portfoliositez :) I hope that helps!

@hmgphotos never meant that I had to pay for the free stuff.. I just don't do the CSS and I really don't have all the time to figure dig through the forums so for me to have something custom I would have to pay for it and the cheapest I could find was 399.

@moncooga VERY good point, never thought of it like that before! I stopped searching, made a few changes and now I am happy with it. Thanks for the bluntness I appreciate that!
