My final photography project at college is to plan, design, and then create 3 different styles of greetings card.
The main subject HAS to be the photo obviously, but the style of shot (Macro, Landscape, Seascape etc.) and the subject, composition etc is up to me!
I was looking for your ideas that's all.
Initial thoughts of mine;
* Fairy cake for a birthday card
* Macro shot an engagement / wedding ring
* Vintage car for passing driving test
Quite cliche perhaps... so i'm looking for inspiration please.
Any thoughts on what YOU think would make a great unique greetings card shot?
I like the driving test idea but the wedding cards and birthday cards are too familiar. How about these ideas?
"The romantic greeting card category includes those with sentiments of love, romance, missing you, or I’m sorry. Greeting cards that convey messages of congratulations are common for births, anniversaries, weddings, engagements, and other joyous occasions. Congratulations greeting card categories also include retirement, graduation, bon voyage, pregnancy, Bat/Bar Mitzvah, and baptism or christening.
Sympathy cards are available in religious and non-religious versions. Get well and feel better soon cards are also prevalent. Miscellaneous categories include those such as thinking of you, encouragement, friendship, and good luck.
A relatively new category of greeting cards are those for business or professional use. Many of the other categories, such as birthday or holiday cards, are now labeled “appropriate for work.” Other uses for business greeting cards include thank you cards, announcements, or cards used for keeping in touch with customers or clients. Now that there is Boss’s Day, Nurses’ Day, and Administrative Professional’s Day, card manufacturers have created greeting cards for these events."

Baby feet/hands for a baby shower or congrats on new baby (or a pregnant mom for the baby shower)
Flowers for a happy Easter card...
You can also create "miss you" or "get well soon" cards that could have just about anything on them...
Idk, not feeling very creative at the moment... good luck!
Rudy (@rudykess) might be on to something there. A fun and funky concept might make a great picture stand out in your instructor's mind even more. In that vein, here are a handful of silly holidays that might get your creative photographic juices flowing...
January 14th – Clean Off Your Desk Day.
January 27th – Chocolate Day.
February 20th – Love Your Pet Day.
March 1st – Share a Smile Day.
June 16th – National Fudge Day.
August 5th – Sister’s Day.
September 28th – Good Neighbor Day.
October 26th – Mother-in-Law’s Day.
December 4th – National Cookie Day.
Chuck an L plate lying near the vintage car maybe selective colour?
Be as creative as you can but it's a photography exam, technical quality, ie; composition, lighting, exposure etc are probably a big chunk of the marking points - if you have the curriculum part for this bit handy it'll give you a good idea of what to focus on in terms of weighted marks.
The business oriented one is a good idea. I work at a school & have started offering greeting card sets w/ 2 different images; one is the front of our school building (a lovely old building) & the other is of empty desks in a nice looking classroom. I got 3 orders this week from colleagues. They want to use them as work thank-you cards :)
Wow @tkallen@rudykess you two are great for thinking 'outside of the box' ... such a cool idea. Chocolate Day? LOL who'ld of thought it... yummy. Hang on, thats also known as Easter Sunday isnt it? ;-)
I'm definately going to think more along those lines...
Many thanks!!! x
Thankyou @killerjackalope for your constructive advice... yeah you're right, the theme of the card ISN'T the main focus of the subject, it will be the composition, use of focus points, lighting conditions. I can't wait to get started tbh! ;-)
That's actually a very interesting idea @laurawheeler . Work Thankyou cards.. there is definately a need for them in my workplace too... wow, something for me to think about definately.
Thank-you for taking some time to think about this. ;-)
Hi there - would love to see what you came up with in the end :-D
... I'm slowly compiling my own collection of greeting cards made with my own photography - time permitting, I create new cards for friends and family when an event happens, so usually personalized and inspired for the initial recipient in mind - some good and many bad ones at this stage ;-)... e.g.

94 could work as a great missing you card.
Also you seem to have a lot of "props" on hand to do a birthday card for a little boy and the things they love.
I was just wondering does this have to be the "normal" greeting card occasions or can it be throughly "unique".
I was thinking ouside of the box and creating your own type of occasions...
Examples:
Happy French Onion Soup Day
Shopping for New Shoes Day
My Son Finally Went to Sleep Night
This could possibly give you endless possibilities and the pictures that you could use...
