All the colours of the...Rubicks Cube :D

April 29th, 2011
Sooooo im doing a project in school where we choose our own brief (its for visual communication and design class, so basically advertising/design) and im doing a photographic advertisement for a 3D TV product. Its based on a Rubicks Cube design, but long story short i want each colour, and similarly each block of a Rubicks cube to be transformed into a photograph.
I figured there are countless creative brains here and i need help thinking of what different things would sshow each colour (ie. blue-skies and water, green is anything nature)

so any suggestions on things to photograph for each colour :)

-blue
-green
-orange
-red
-yellow
-white

thanks in advance for any input :D

blue --> lighting off television / computer screens which is usually bluish.
green --> money (in the case of dollars...)
orange --> fire
red --> coca cola
yellow --> bottles of whisky!
white --> street lights / car headlights.

Otherwise, graffiti of different colors could be cool i think.

I started listing ideas for each color and then I had a thought: Do you want to have a theme, such as nature, for each block on the Rubicks cube or do you want to vary the types of photos? e.g. nature and urban

Do you want to use realistic pictures or processed pictures? If you process the pictures you could have one house or skyscraper (or perhaps your product) in the various colors or a person with hair color for the various colors or vary the person's eye color.

Do you want to show pieces of the product (if applicable) on each block? If the product had various colors, this might work. Or do you want to show how the viewer would look at the product or use the product?

Just ideas off the top of my head.

Here are a few ideas for each color.
blue: sky, water, eye color, blueberries, a blue flower (forget me not)
green: a lime, grass, plant leaves, tree leaves, eye color, traffic light, lettuce, cabbage
orange: the fruit, orange painted wall, a flower (such as a Gerbena daisy) or a marigold)
red: tomato, apple, traffic light, stop sign, a tulip, a rose, geranium blossoms
yellow: lemon, traffic light, sunlight, dandelion
white: the seed stage of a dandelion, a sheet of paper, a cloud, cotton ball, Q-tip, whipped cream, a carnation flower, bed sheets

This sounds like a fun project. I hope you can show the final project on the 365.

blue ---> Sky, flowers, water, swimming pool, sea, juice, WKD :p
green ---> Grass, wine bottle, my lava lamp's green but I don't know that that helps :p
orange ---> An orange, traffic lights, warning lights, etc.
red ---> Ketchup, love (interpret however), roses, fire engine
yellow ---> Sunshine, chicks, cake?
white ---> snow, ice cream (although that could be any colour), paper (with writing?)

Any colour: Balloons, flowers, socks, food colouring in water, chocolate/sweet wrappers, Jelly babies, Jelly beans, skittles, smarties, gummy bears in fact most sweets :p, converse...

Hope this helps! I'd love to see it finished :D

This is a neat project. As a nerd i am drawn to this idea as i used to speed solve the Rubik's cube for fun (42secs was my best time btw ;] )

If i were to do this project (which i might do a photo version of it..) then i would pick an overall theme for the colors. As speed solving relates to me my overall theme would be "Speed"

Blue - Makes me think Water or Sky: Boat Racing? Sky Diving? or maybe NoS boosters
Green - Green StopLight GO!!
Orange – Hmmm tricky one.. Maybe orange racing stripes? Or Flame decal?
Yellow – Lighting.
Red – Red Racecar/Sports car
White – Definitely a BnW shot. Prob a trophy or finish line (not to be confused with the Finnish line [in Finland]) this is significant to be b/c white was always the top side for me and thus the last layer I solved making it the finish line for me when speed solving.

Hope it helps inspire you! Look forward to seeing what you come up with [:

Thanks everyone :D lots of ideas to work off :P
a few of you asked or mentioned it, and i forgot to, SO i AM working off a theme, and the theme is youth, but its quite broad BECAUSE colours signify youth anyway as well as the Rubicks Cube. Soooooooo yeah :D
Also, ill be sure to post my final piece up on here, when i think im finished and see if anyone has any hints on how to refine it slightly :D i want the marks soo yeah haha. ive got 6 weeks to finish this and another one based on the same brief. but im doing one at a time.

FYI the other one is based on the idea of "no glasses 3D" and ill have stuff FLYING out of an eye....How i do that without it looking weird i dont know yet but i have a few ideas :D:D
