Hello all again,

I want to thank everyone how critiqued my stuff for me, it was a big big help.

I also was wondering what everyone thinks is the best stuff to buy. I want to get a couple of lenses, but I am not sure where to start to get the most bang for my buck. Any idea's will be very helpful. thanks so much.

Maybe you could rent some different lenses before you buy? From a local camera shop. I looooove my wide angle, but I rarely use it like I thought I would. (But, I'm never giving it up! Haha!) Perhaps if I had rented it before I bought, I would have gotten something else instead. Do you just want to know the best, as in quality of lenses, though? 'Cause I can't help you very much with that, as I'm still learning all of that stuff.

@laceyjogautreau thanks for the reply. I'm just wanting to know what people use the most. thier opinions about thier lenses and how much they use them. see you saying that u love your wide angle but not using it too much it very useful. I want to get a macro, and I also want to get a ZOOMZOOM ZOOM, lol. I want to get some good wildlife photos, and I need to be able to get the shots of them from far away so that the animals and birds don't get spooked.

@joymol I have a similar camera (yours is the newer version). I use my 70-300mm f5.6 most of the time. My children are always a bit ahead of me so I don't have to get in the way when they play. I have better luck capturing what they're doing with a bigger lens. My camera came with a 18-55mm f5.6 kit lens that's kind of crappy. I WANT a 35mm f1.8 BUT I can't find one in stock. I saved up the money for several months and now everyone is sold out. It's was a $200 lens because our cameras need to be the DX lenses for the auto focus to work. My 70-300 is not a DX and I have no problem using manual focus... I might go that route for the f1.8. I feel the big problem with the Nikon D3000 and D3100 is shooting in low light. You need a lot of light or a lens with a low Fstop (1.4 or 1.8) to get nice photos in low light situations. I can get nice shots outside with the lenses I have but to shoot indoors I need a new lens. My sister is having twins in a few months so I really need to get a new lens soon. I'm very new to photography so I don't know if I'm any help at all.

@schoolnsuch thanks so much. I love hearing from another Nikoner. I have issues indoors as well. It is tricky to ge the right balance of light. Outdoors is a no problem place. Thanks so much. Any other tips and tricks you want to share please pass them on.

@joymol I just read that you want wild life photos. a 35mm 1.8 won't help you at all with that but it might be a lens that comes in handy in the winter if you're stuck inside. My 70-300 does OK with wildlife. I take daily photos of birds. I don't know if I put any in my 365 but I know I put a photo of a cow in my album #2.

@joymol Hi Brooke! I have a Nikon D90 and I also struggled with the direction to go when I was first starting out about a year ago. My kit lens is an 18-105, which I love because it's so versatile. My first purchases were a 50mm f/1.8 which is an amazing lens for indoor use, as well as outdoor and it gives so much beautiful bokeh, and a 70-300 because I wanted a little more reach. I do use it for a lot of my bird photos, but I try to max out at 200-250mm on it because it's not as sharp beyond that. My next purchase was Kenko extension tubes, and I became hooked on macro, so I just got a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. Love, love, love my macro lens. Great for the macro as well as portraits. Hope this helps :)

Idk the Nikon lens lineup, as i own a canon; but! As it seems your main subject(s) overall would be your children i highly suggest a standard telephoto w/ a consistent f2.8, you will find auto focusing w/ this kind of lens to be very quick making it much easier to get shots of children runnin around much easier even in lower lighting. However a lens like that ISNT CHEAP heh..

A nice 50mm 1.8f would be nice too, you just wouldnt get the luxury of zoom w/ it but it would also preform very well in even minimal lighting situations and most def has beautiful bokeh.

Overall, id just do some research on what YOU want b/c thats most important ;D
A great site for that would be: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/
I use it constantly when im looking at lenses
