I will be honest , i am not very camera savvy (im much more edit savvy hehe) BUT my settings are generally as follows :
Exposure: 0.0125 sec (1/80)
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO Speed: 400
Focal Length: 45 mm
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO Speed: 400
Focal Length: 55 mm
they seem to be the general details off 2 of my favourite splashes ive done :)
I have NO external flash , just the inbuilt flash and i use a sony A-230 which is probably not as good as what most people have but it works ok for me :D
The way i do mine is tomake sure that there is no direct sunlight in the room , a dull day works best for me ...... the only lighting i use is the crappy bulb in my bathroom or kitchen and the inbuilt flash ...... splashes can be very tricky to get sharp as the water is fast moving and constant but the closer u can get themore chance u have of getting a sharp image of frozen water ..... i test run first to see how far the splash reaches before picking up my camera , i always approach from the angle that sprays least water (trust metheres always one angle better hehe :) then i just click away ..... i find by doing it this way most of the shots i take are sharp and clear so when choosing i just choosing the interesting shapes lol
all ofthe above info is what works for me , i dont use a tripod (yes i own one but only use it for stuff like sunsets lol) , i literally am only a beginner i only got my camera last year so im still feeling in the dark a lot but this works for me :) hope it helps a little x
@indiannie_jones Just did some experiment photos, got that bit down... Also learned a lesson... If you're going to take pictures involving a shower, it's probably wiser to be ready for a shower... I'm now rather damp...
On the other hand, fixed the doors, no point really since they''ll be in the way if closed :S
@killerjackalope ~ haha ! should have warned u that it can get ermmm "damp" haha !.... says the person typing with wet hands after an idea just hit her square in the head "doh"
@indiannie_jones I hope you know your next challenge is going to be a doozy... Or torturous in some way...
@flamez I should've realized that you can't hold the shower head and turn if off with one hand... ;p
I'll dig up my photos of holi, I brought my bridge camera for in the ring since they're sealed up well anyway but the ones with slrs were using combinations of cling film and other things, the powered dust is far more permeating that water as there's not surface tension to stop it getting in to small openings...

Beginner or not on the camera side you still post awesome water shots so worth asking...
In this case the water won't be coming at the camera, just passing so safe for the splashes :P
After yesterday my tripod is banned from use, it clearly brings bad luck, finally get good traffic and dark, second I pop the tripod the rain falls...

Haha glad you know what not to wear now.
right nursery pick up time im gone ,,,,,,,,,

Might be good to share for crazier water shots...
It'll make you squirm though...
