Copyrighting your photos

June 9th, 2011
I've noticed that some of the photos posted have the photographers names on the photo and some do not. For those who do, how are you putting your name on the photo. The only way I know how is to go into photoshop and use the text setting. Is there an easier and quicker way?

You need to have some software to put the text on the photo. It may be photoshop. lightroom, gimp, picasa or any other photo editing software.

Look for function called: Add watermark

I just go into Picnik and add whatever text I want, sometimes stick my name in the corner.

@janicesphoto I used a tutorial on the internet to add my copyright information as a brush in Photoshop Elements 8, then everytime I want to add the copyright info, I simply select the brush, choose the colour and the size and click it once on my photo. Try searching on google for instructions for whichever software you use. I hope this helps :o)

Also if you search "watermark" on here, there are several other discussions about how to accomplish the same thing in other editing programs.

I made up a seperate logo with white text on a black background then on each shot I copy and add the logo as a new screen layer in whichever editing package I am using at the time

In Photoshop I made a new image 600x300 with a transparent background,
then entered the text I wanted,
Saved two copies one with black text one with white text,
Open and edit your photo as usual,
then use the place function (and select one of the previously saved copyright files) on whatever photo I'm editing,
Resize the 'new' layer,
Alter the Opacity of the text layer as necessary,
Then flatten image and save :-)

I couldn't 'get' it using tutorials once the files are created you just have to keep using the same files, this way works for me minimal messing about too! (needed If you are computer illiterate like me).

i use picassa and when i export my pics to my laptop it gives me the option to add a watermark,it's very basic but also quite discreet so doesn't distract from the picture at all

@pete21 You know you could just have one either black or white and hit ctrl+I to invert the colours :P

I have mine saved as a transparent .PSD file and I copy the image into whatever photo I'm watermarking. I've made brushes before as well. Change the opacity or layer type if you like - I prefer to do this.

I just add text in Picnik, free, simple and you can change the font, fade, colour etc to suit the picture :)
