@pwallis actually that's a fantastic guess. I'm going to go with that too. My mom used to have one of these in her kitchen, but I've no idea what it is and as a kid just played with it in the floor while she did dishes.
thanks guys! we had guessed a tea strainer as well - it actually looks like it would fit over a tea cup. figured putting it out there for guesses would either confirm it or discount it.
Yep tea strainer. The little bit that sits inside with the tiny handle, looks like it may 'squash' the tea leaves after pouring to extract the last bit of flavour/tea from them.
These were used before tea bags were invented. They held the tea leaves, and as said befoe, the other part was used to squeeze the last drops of tea from the leaves :)
the star makes me think Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish/Menonite/German Descent. It looks like one of their traditional barn stars. Without the scale of the object (bigger or smaller than a can of coke) it is hard to go on for me.
Like the idea of pressing down on the leaves to get every lost goodness out of the tea. also a very nice looking set..have not come across one like it.
anyone else?
