Moon
So we all think of photographing the moon when it is at its fullest, but to give us more of a challenge is to take a photo of the waning moon. This week starting on January 15th we go from a half moon to the tiniest of crescents on the 22nd.
So for my first year I completely failed at taking moon shots, because I was training my camera for the dark sky, when I should have been treating the moon like the sun. So my advice is to use a low ISO, a high shutter speed, and if an aperture that is in the higher numbers. The moon is also really great to shoot at dusk and dawn and can provide an amazing interest level to your photo. Also this is an opportunity to use editing skills, composition and finding trees, buildings, cranes, etc. to use in the foreground.

What Do You Hear
Now some of you may have weather issues that may make shooting the moon very difficult so we are offering an alternate challenge this week provided by Peter de Graaf is "What do You Hear" this can include what you are listening to or sounds. The task is to work on how you capture this so it works on your preparation and composition skills, and allows you to work on how to bring a concept into a photograph.

Wow, thank you so much Paula and thank you for putting all of these challenges together!!! I had so much fun. I know I won't be participating in the moon challenge but want to try what do you hear, not sure how to go about that though. Will have to work on it a bit. :)
