Well this week the skill we are working on is color in all its greatness. I for one love color and having it jump from my photos, but am looking forward to making a conscious effort to think about the color results prior to my composition. For those that tend to not use that much color, this is a great chance to shake things up and discover the joys of saturation.
So there are so many ways to add in color or just play with it. Find the one bright color in the mundane, show how colors interact with each other, highlight one color or color family in your photo. Think of ways it saturating, defining the photo, interacting with other colors.
Consider how colors play against each other or compliment and make something stand out
Primary - red/blue/yellow
Complimentary – red/green, blue/orange, yellow/purple
Color Family – red/orange/yellow or yellow/green/blue
Contrasting non matching colors - how they compete with each other in positive/negative space.
Also a great way to play with color is through the saturation button that is on most of the editing programs.
I love color and am excited to see what you can do. Remember NO Rules other than working on your own skills. I will pick my five favorite next Sunday by Noon, New York City time. So label them Y2COLOR
I'm trying to stay away from rainbows this week. I doubt I'll be able to totally avoid it. hehe. I will say that this will be fun for my last full week =)
I thought this coral looked pretty with the purple so I thought I'd try to take a picture of it. Turns out the purple was algae that was invading it because it was dying. It had to be taken out of the tank and added to the coral cemetery that we've been adding to for the past 7 years or so. Fortunately, there aren't that many interments.
I messed around with the original in Lightroom 4 and PSE9 to saturate and contrast the purples, pinks and blues.
Ha! What timing! I just amped up the saturation on the shot I just took today, to increase the colors. I tagged it for the challenge! I think I want to get in on this one, for sure!
The Houston Holocaust Museum is creating a powerful exhibit to go on display this spring - one million Jewish children murdered in the Holocaust will each be represented by one million hand-created butterflies from around the world. My 8th grade students are participating in this project and this is a picture of just a few of the 130 butterflies they made.
This by @janmaki and is a traffic sign against a blue sky
@lolanae

These colours were produced by glass craftsmen about 600 years ago.
