Street Photography Now - Week 18

September 3rd, 2012
Hallo...

With Jase gone, and interest somewhat waning on the street photography thing, I'm not sure whether to keep this one going or not... however, I am really loving street, and i love looking at other's street shots, so thought I would at least take a run at hosting this one as well...

Here are the instructions for Week 18:

"Look for a window. Through a window, out of a window, or at the reflections on a window." Originally set by Arif Asci.

It is up to you on how you interpret the instruction.

Please remember only 1 photo per person (to try and get people to think more about the instruction) and tag it SPN-18. Entries must be taken between Monday September 3rd thru Sunday September 9th.

Next Monday the winner of week 17 will choose 5 of their fav's so we can have a vote.

Also, remember that one of the rules was no camera phone shots.

Happy trails!

Jase has gone? Oh poop. I dig the SPN challenges when I can get to them, so thanks for taking the initiative Northy.

@northy Thanks for picking up the challenge. I've had a great time with this as well, even though the number of entries has dropped. We need to correct that! ;-)

@pschtyckque i agree we need to correct this... i still see a fair number of street shots in my feed, but getting less and less... :( the last couple of weeks on SPN the challenges have been tricky... this one is easier and hopefully will have more appeal...

I agree, I love the street photography, maybe we could start another discussion topic that discusses street photography and points people to this challenge
Eg "Have you wanted to try some street photography but been too afraid?" start here.
Any chance also of dropping the no mobile/cell phone rule, I think it would get a lot more people in?...A lot of amazing street photography is done on mobile/cells.

@monika64 I dunno... On the one hand, allowing cell phone shots feels a little sacrilegious... On the other - some of the point 'n shoots aren't really much different or bigger...
September 3rd, 2012
@northy the original flickr challenge that Jase got the list from allowed cell phones. I believe it was just a Jase thing that they werent allowed.
Your call though.
Good luck with the organisation here, let me know if I can help. :)

Good on you for running with this Northy. I don't go in the all, but I try to do the ones I think I can manage. I didn't know jase had gone

I really like this challenge, I will try to get a shot for it this week.
September 3rd, 2012
@monika64 tx Monika... i should be ok for now... as for the cell phone cameras... maybe i'll just quietly drop the rule from the instructions next week...

Yeah iPhones!
September 3rd, 2012
Thanks for taking this on.
Any chance of getting the SPN-Challenge account pw from Jase via Flickr?
September 3rd, 2012
@humphreyhippo I have it from him... Is it helpful? I was thinking having to deal w another account would be a pain... But if you think it might help increase participation than I will :)
September 3rd, 2012
My only thought was the account has 156 followers so anyone who doesn't read the forums, might not see this, but would see the challenge in their stream.
I don't know what proportion follow SPN, but don't follow you - probably quite a small subset. ;)

On the cell phone thing, for what it's worth, imho I have no problem with it. I understand Jase's reasons, but street photography takes most people way out of their comfort zones and if using a camera phone helps them get started then that's OK by me. At the end of the day, a pic has to stand on its own merit and if I like it, I don't care how it was taken or processed. :)

I don't know why I haven't jumped into this earlier. I love street photography and would loved to be pushed by it. iPhones or whatever. We all can't be Robin Warner as much as we would like to be. Using a phone camera can help people ease into this challenge.

@humphreyhippo Trying to figure out the acronym. What is SPN?
