I am just wondering, how many more that see this still make (home made sauce) it seems that fewer and fewer are doing it. and that is a bad thing in my opinion. If we don't passhttp:// these traits down, in time, people will say, (home made sauce?) never heard of it http://365project.org/rrt/365/2010-08-24
I must say, I've not made homemade sauce in a long time...even then I "cheated" some. I don't know that I've ever been passed down a recipe. Care to share yours? I'd love to give it a go!
glad to see still some that do the home made thing, The ketchup thing might be fun and eaiser, but the great flavor that is in the home made is totally missing. thanks for all the feedback
I don't think I have ever made spaghetti sauce from scratch but I make a killer 4 mushroom pasta with homemade sauce using heavy cream, thyme and sherry among other things. I also have a yummy recipe for shrimp pasta with a sauce made of chicken broth, lemon juice, salt, pepper, parsley and crushed red pepper. Mmmm... Good thing it is almost dinner time!
I don't usually start with home grown tomatoes, because whatever we are able to grow, we eat fresh. But I do make sauce from scratch though most of the time, I cheat a bit. I also make home made salsa (fresh not cooked).
Lol takes me 2 days to make lasagna, simmer the toms for up to 5 hours and then make the sauce the next day and put it all together. Cant stand canned / bottled sauces.
my mom has a giant pot that fits about 15-20 gallons of liquid which my grandfather made himself. Every year about this time she busts it out and spends a day making a years worth of spaghetti sauce with the fresh tomatos from the garden. I assume I will start doing this myself one day once I settle down and have a garden of my own.
When learning to reciepe to tomato sauce in Italy and this is all over the country I have been suprised to see that Heniz Tommy K is used in the sauce making process. Left me speechless but still produces a great sauce.
I make many different things from scratch, pasta sauces, curry pastes, relishes, condiments and I make my own jam. I wish I had a veggie garden, it's on the plan for the coming year but with two pre-schoolers I don't have lots of time at the moment to dedicate to gardening.
Pocketmouse my secret bolognaise ingredient is dried porchini mushrooms ;-)
I make all sauces, jams, marmalades, pestos, curry powders, etc. from scratch. Can't abide the bought stuff. Once you've made your own it's impossible to go back. I freeze all the extra and we have it ready all year through.
I have a horrible knack for not being able to cook from scratch well. But my neighbor can make ANYTHING! So I raid her pantry (buy overstock). It's yummer delicious !
when i was a stay at home mom, i made everything from scratch, now my son is grown and i work full time im afraid i dont any more. But i will eat it if it was made FOR me LOL
But I agree too many on the shelf preprocessed guff juices out there :)
