Ello everyone. Hope your weekend has gone well. Did you enjoy the first Mad Minute challenge? How's the weather in your parts?
The idea of Mad Minute Words is simple: we present a strange (and/or lovely) word to you, and you draw from it as inspiration for your photo. To keep it acceptably mad, we're doing two words a week, one presented on Monday and another on Friday.
Your photo for today's word should be posted on Wednesday, April 24th. Likewise, your photo for Friday's word should be posted on Sunday. Yes, just to heat up the madness, we've restricted the entry time for each word to a single day.
So, without further ado and a little alliteration, this Monday's Mad Minute Word is: kalopsia (English, noun) The delusion of things being more beautiful than they are.
Please tag your entry mmw-kalopsia and feel free to drop us a line right here in the discussion. After Wednesday I'll pick my favorite interpretation of kalopsia, and its creator will get to select the word for next Monday. @janim is in the process of choosing the host for Friday as we speak. Well, actually he's probably sleeping as we speak. Or maybe he's not. You know, time zones and stuff. You can Google it.
Check out our early attempts at mad minute words for some inspiration.
All right, I think I've sufficiently beat this horse to death. Now it's your turn!
Thank you for this! Your first forays were fascinating to watch, and all favworthy--and I don't think I was suffering from kalopsia (which ironically autocorrects to "jalousie", from which I WAS).
@spirrowshoot I love this word!!! Aaaggghh, I totally took a photo for the previous word but it was Sunday and I was just relaxing in the park all day. *sigh*
Anyway, I'm totally excited for this one. Can't wait to see everyone's take!
@missmercy OMG, genius! I'm taking my camera to the club! :D
Wohoo - thanx for tagging me. Can't wait to try it out! As a philologist I looove those words, especially as most of them are ancient Greek - my favourite language! I'm such a geek ;).
You can use an old selfie, as long as you modify the EXIF data & tell everybody that it was just a mad rush to take the picture in time for the challenge, but somehow you managed to do it :)
@janim Heh. The last program I downloaded to do that, when I wanted to change the dates on my holiday snaps, failed to actually save the changes. Guess it's a new photo, then.
@squamloon Cool, an intuitive autocorrect! Sometimes I wonder if all photographers are affected by kalopsia at one point, with our fascination for decaying doors and rusty old metal...
@gwhit123 You want to join in the madness, eh? Well, I don't think there's a rite of passage or anything, so welcome aboard! Can't wait to see your shot.
@northy Tricky question - sounds like inspiration to me. You're right, I did forget about the EOTB challenge when I posted this. Oops. I think everyone is creative enough to customize it, though.
@spirrowshoot I have to admit agreement on that. In fact, as @northy alluded to earlier, there are those who might argue that kalopsia's paradoxical. Which makes it fun!
@spirrowshoot@squamloon
Oh - I wasn't referring to the eotb challenge per se, but rather to the precept... I have a hard time in believing in objective truth... Def makes for a very interesting challenge!

@violeta post the zugzwang shot if you have one!

Even if I don't think I totally understood the word! lol!
