A massive thanks to all that contributed, voted and entered Rawcomp 17.
Congratulations to the eventual winner Kiran, in a close fought battle that went down to the wire.
Kiran is unfortunately in the middle of moving, so is unable to host this round. So she has asked me if I would do the honours, which is why I'm here sweating over a hot keyboard, trying to work out the hosting process
For those of you who are new to RAWCOMP, the concept is pretty simple. The last winner (runner up?) becomes the host and posts a link to a RAW photo in dng format. Contestants download the image and edit using RAW editor only. The resulting file is then saved as a jpeg, submitted and tagged RAWCOMP18. The host then adjudicates on the edits and presents a selection for voting.
I chose a photo taken in February whilst on Holiday in Noosa Queensland. We (My Sister, Brother in Law and I) had been for a short climb up Mount Ngungun,in the Glass House Mountains I had my camera set on Manual as I took a couple of Pano's at the peak. Making my way down snapping as I went through the forest, blissfully unaware the camera was still on manual (200th sec/f10/iso100). So as you can imagine all pics are "dark", but we're shooting RAW heh so it shouldn't matter that much. So my challenge is to see what the "World Wide 365ers" can do with this example.
"All editing must be done with a RAW processor , using no other software or plugins" - so either Lightroom, Adobe Camera RAW, the RAW processing software that came with your camera, but nothing else that does more than RAW processing - no NIK plugins, no compositions, no other editing other than RAW processing. This differentiates it from WWYD, where any editing goes. Cropping the photo is allowed but must be done within the RAW processor."
All entries must be submitted by midnight (BST) on April 12th and the finalists will be announced on April 13th.
Don't forget to tag your photo RAWCOMP18
Here is a preview of the starting point, posted as a jpeg on my 365 page.
You will, when you get to look a little closer into the file, see that the tree has both natural and man made scarring. Maybe if you look closely you may find something that strikes a chord, that could look good if processed as the focal point of the image? Who Knows?
Competition now closed, there were only 7 entries in total, so shall have them all for voting tomorrow, seems unfair to single out one entry.
So there will be a choice of 7 entries for this round :)
