[Theme] Lens Flare

December 12th, 2010
Loni won last weeks Vivid theme, a big well done to her!

How about "sun flair" as the next theme? I've always made it a habit to tilt my lens just right, letting a little sun flair in my shots to see what I would get. I've managed some pretty interesting images of landscapes, portraits, etc. I'd love to see what others could come up with, too.

If you're a little unsure what exactly Lens flare is, check out the Wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_flare or check out the site search for Flare

It would be good to see REAL lens flare rather than an image with it photoshopped in!

Entry to this theme starts on Monday (13th December) and will accept entries until Sunday night (23:59 GMT 19th December).

Entries must have been taken and uploaded this week only! Entries outside of the date range will not be accepted.

Congratulations Loni!

Dang!! A week too late, I had a sweet lens flare on a viper. Oh well, gonna have to do it again!! lol
Great theme! And congrats! Loved that pic!!

lol - I have NO idea how to use editing programs except to crop, rotate, brighten and maybe level a bit ... so for me it's nearly always SOOC. easy one - cheers.

Congrats, Loni! Great new theme choice! I, too, had some great lens flare last week....LOL. Will get out and shoot some more, capturing more flare!

Now wait a sec...there's a big snow storm coming and an advisory warning until at least Tuesday. There won't be any sun where I'm from! Where am I supposed to get flare from!!?? Lol, I'm just kidding (well, not about the storm, but about the complaining!)

Congrats to Loni and great theme. I LOVE lens flare!!
December 13th, 2010
YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lens flare is my favorite :) well, not my favorite, but I lOVE it! great pick Loni, and congrats!

@kcphotography - hahahaha yea theres gonna be a snow storm here too... very little sun. but when that sun DOES peek out from beind the clouds... you bet I'll be out there in a flash with my camera pointed towards the sky! ;D
December 13th, 2010
How do you get lens flare??
I don't think it'll help that there's a blizzard outside... But oh well!
December 13th, 2010
Congrats to Loni on the win...
LOL, Now if the Mother Nature would turn off the rain and bless sun the PNW with some sun, I'm in.
December 13th, 2010
......lense flare will be almost impossible up here in Norway where we are in the darkest of the dark season........and not much blue sky to see at all with all the snowing we are having right now......
December 13th, 2010
Uhmmmm...I`m not a fan of intentional lens flare... I guess,if it happens by accident,I`ll tag it ,too...but I doubt it
December 13th, 2010
@Scrivna Great idea! Definitely up for this one. Bring on the flare!!!
December 13th, 2010
@Scrivna Oh yeah! This is a definite good one! I love the occasional flare in the right spot. This will be fun (just hope we actually get some daylight here in the UK this week or will have to pull out some old ones...lol).
December 13th, 2010
LOL well, living in the great PNW, we won't be getting sun anytime soon. xD We are getting record rainfall right now. Yay xD
December 13th, 2010
Congrats! But sun? Hmm, I have to wait and see...
December 13th, 2010
Might be difficult NOT to Photoshop one in considering it's Winter for us Brits and the sun comes and goes while we're at work...
December 13th, 2010
Congratulations - timing is pretty grim for us in the Northern hemispere. Might have managed something yesterday but apparently the rest of the week is grey grey grey - I'll look forward to seeing what others come up with.
December 13th, 2010
Congrats Loni!!

Lens flare is interesting... i have to try it one day. I can't join in, I think, since it's winter now... no sun at all.
December 13th, 2010
You can create lens flare indoors too! Any light source will do, the Sun is not mandatory!

Congratulations Loni.
December 13th, 2010
@Scrivna I know that, but it's ambiguous in the description above because Loni only refers to sun flare.
December 13th, 2010
Ohhhh! Anyone going through my photos knows I LOVE sun flares. No artificial ingredients needed! Looking like I will be seeking some sun this week! =D
December 13th, 2010
@misschuff I'm with you...if I get lens flare then it was there in the first place! Your processing sounds a lot like mine :-) Still its seen me through! I just posted one as well....darn!
December 13th, 2010
I love sun flares!!!
December 13th, 2010
Congratulations Loni! Nice one for the theme, if we ever see the sun again this week here in Michigan LOL.
December 13th, 2010
Thanks for the nice words everyone! Ya, it's pretty cloudy here in the midwest, too, but I know the sun will peek out at some point this week. Plus, as Ross said, you can create lens flare without the sun :-)
December 13th, 2010
Great job Loni. This will be a challenging theme for me. Love it.
December 13th, 2010
Amazing topic! Accidental flares are more fun for those who look at the image, but if your the photograoher, it's good to see what would happen if hte lens was slightly more towards the sun...
December 14th, 2010
Congrats, Loni!!!! :-))))) I am loving the new theme!
December 14th, 2010
I had some good ones too but they were taken on the 9th : )
December 15th, 2010
You know, I enjoyed chasing the sun these past few days (& cursing, too, because it just won't come out). I took some wishful shots through that old bamboo tree in my street as my neighbors passed by, the photos were awful. & gosh, the mango tree shots just didn't work out well either! I just couldn't figure out how to produce that effin' flare effect! I smelled of damp earth after I tripped. Haha! Oh well, I enjoyed that I twisted myself a little, squinted a lot, & probably sprained my neck, too, just to achieve the effect. Thanks for this amazing theme! I hope my photo will be part of the Top20. lols!
December 15th, 2010
Great theme Loni. Lots of opportunities "down under" this week ;-)
December 15th, 2010
Aw, man! I have some terrific flare photos I took last year. :(

Getting ready for a trip, so no time for shooting this week. Looking forward to participating more in 2011, when I start my 365.
December 15th, 2010
oh sweet.. imma try to go out later and chase the sun! LOL!
December 16th, 2010
@rafaelseno Good for you for not giving up :-) I hope all your hard work pays off!
