Theme - September People (Halfway)

September 17th, 2015
Hello all. How's life and art? Hope great. So I started a challenge for the month of September to try to capture nothing but people. A lot of you have joined in, and the photos are both amazing and at the same time...inspirational. Want to thank everyone playing along so far.

We're just a day or two over halfway there. Wanted to start a discussion about how its going so far for everyone. Critiques, ideas, inspirations....if you could take one photo of a person....how would you do it, who would it be? Just random ideas.

While we're at it, post you're favorite photo of a person or people that you've captured this month of September.

If you want to join in on the fun....tag your photos theme-septpeople2015.

No rules...just that photos have to be taken only in the month of September 2015. Anyone can join.

Good luck,
Beau

For me...the hardest thing is asking someone to have their photo taken. Even my family or people I know. I started with the family, which are a little easier to sucker into posing, but also the ability to set a shot up. I stretched to people I know...mostly co-workers. Surprisingly, all have been a little hesitant, but accommodating.

What I've found hardest, is once they said yes...I'm lost on how to compose. Background, lighting, contrasts...etc. Trying to think fast, fearing that they'll walk away cause I can't make a decision or have asked them to many times "oh...wait one more minute...I have an idea".

But its a fun, learning experience. Hopefully I'll get the nerve to ask a complete stranger. Definitely my goal.

Here's my favorite so far this month:

I also have difficulty getting anyone to pose for me, but this one was a rare opportunity. My daughter and son-in-law were going to a fantasy themed party and had great costumes.

I've been really enjoying this theme Beau, even though photographing people is what I predominantly do. After 2 weeks I finally took some selfies, so now I even have a new profile picture (after nearly 2 years with my old one!).

I came across this article the other day and thought you might find it interesting... http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-photograph-strangers-the-100-strangers-project/ It's something I've thought about for down the road, as it is totally out of my comfort zone. It talks about posing people etc too. My suggestion here is before you even ask someone if you can take their photo, start invisioning how you would pose them. Or you could use a prop or something special that symbolises that person.

My favourite photo from the month is this one. I guess its more special to me than appealing to others, but I love it just the same.

I have coupled my challenge with the sooc challenge so most of my photos are more candid while yours seem to be art! it is nice to know you struggle with some of the same things I do, asking someone to pose , how to set it up, the time it takes, then for me the added stress to get it right the first time. As far as inspiration goes, you are my inspiration. I am enjoying the challenge and it has forced me to get out and take more shots! I definitely have started carrying my camera more again and l look forward to what the rest of the month brings! Thanks for the push, Beau!
