Technique Challenge #52 - Zoom Burst

January 20th, 2016
Thanks to @skipt07 for hosting the previous technique challenge - architecture. I am very pleased and honored to host the next technique challenge. There have been so many photographic techniques covered over time here, so it was quite the project to discover one that has not previously been included, but I finally found one... ZOOM BURST.

A zoom burst is an exciting photographic effect, which can add drama and movement to your composition. It involves zooming in or out while you take a photo, causing the shot to blur from the center outwards, as if the scene is “bursting” towards you. Honestly, I have never tried this yet either, so this may be a good learning project for at least a few of us.

You can create this effect with your DSLR camera and a zoom lens or with your editing software. If you have a point and shoot, you can still achieve this effect by editing your photo and using the "effects" tab in Picmonkey (even if you are not an ACE subscriber).

Here is a link to describe the technique further and provides some beautiful examples: http://www.photographymad.com/pages/view/how-to-take-stunning-zoom-burst-photos

The challenge will start today, Tuesday, January 19 and will end Friday, January 29.

One question that folks had during the previous challenge was "does my photo have to be taken in this timeframe?" @skipt07 did some exhaustive research and determined that most of the previous challenges have contained this requirement... so, yes - your photo needs to be taken during the time frame described above.

Please post submissions to this link as well to keep it active in the Themes & Challenges!

I look forward to seeing some exciting interpretations for this new technique from our creative 365ers!

@rosiekerr Excellent choice.

@bill_fe @pistache Thanks! I had to really search around to find a technique which hadn't been done yet. :)
January 20th, 2016
@rosiekerr actually - this technique was done back in 2013 ;p but there's been all sorts of turnover on the site since then and this is a hard technique to do well so i think it's a great one to repeat!

@northy argh! Didn't find it on the list. Oh, well. :) Maybe folks will learn something new anyway.
January 21st, 2016
@rosiekerr seriously - i wouldn't sweat it! i think there's nothing wrong in re-doing some of the challenges... and there's a ton of new folks who've joined the site since then :)

I'd completely forgotten that this technique was possible - and I am new on 365 so I certainly don't mind you re-using the technique! Not sure I'll have anything as lovely as these to submit - but I have been playing about a bit - it's fun!

@littlequeenie Oh, it would be great to see whatever you come up with... thanks for being adventurous. :)

OK - so I did one today. It's not wildly creative - but I still had fun. This is where digital photography comes into its own - I was hugely 'out' on the first 10 shots... being able to view the photos on the camera is such a bonus! I really love some of these entries above and I am making a mental promise to myself to re-vist this technique soon
