The votes were cast, and the subject of the next challenge is... Number 1 though 10!
Each day your submitted photo must use the EXACT number of items prominently in the photo.... for example, if it is a landscape photo and the number is three, you could possibly display three trees as the prominent central subject. The idea is to use the number of items creatively and not just take a pic of three oranges on a table. Here is an example of a number 8 pic...
The idea behind the challenge is to use the number of central items creatively.
Some examples could include:
As in the photo above, the 8 flowers occur naturally and would qualify for the number 8.
For the number 2, a pair of something like shoes, feet, earrings, or anything that a pair of is significant....
For the number 3, triplets, three of a kind, etc... anything that three of a kind is significant...
and so on..
Hard? This is why it is a challenge, and not a theme! :)
At the end of the challenge, I will select the top 10 images (one for each number) and place them up for a vote. You will then vote for your favorite THREE images that will be voted on. The top vote getter will get a $10 Amazon gift card donated by me. I will not be submitting images for this challenge so I can provide an unbiased selection of the top images.
The top 10 images will be selected based on creativity, and relevance to the number theme. Technical display such as HDR, ultra contrasting, etc., while nice, will not be a factor in this challenge.
THIS CHALLENGE WILL START ON APRIL 1st!
If you have any questions, reply to this thread and I will answer them the best I can.
One more thing, Use the tags "number-1", "number-2", "number-3", etc. for the daily tags for your images. This is a requirement, otherwise, it will not be considered!
To be fair to everyone, please shoot your images during the same time frame as their posting to the challenge. In other words, please refrain from using archived images from months or years ago.
DISCLAIMER AND LEGALEZE: The prize that I am offering is in no way endorsed by or sponsored by the 365 Project, and it is being offered by me personally for this challenge, and does not indicate that any such prizes shall or may be offered in future challenges.
You CAN delete your image are post a different one if you wish. I am only going to look at the ones submitted during each day's time frame. Edit your image and remove the tag to take it out of the challenge.
This is probably a dumb question but can we post numbers out of order? Or do we need to post them 1-10? Just curious in case I find my perfect 10 early. =)
Ok, here is what I would like. It is coincidental that the date matches the number, but that is convenient to remember. You may post out of order but the image MUST be taken during the contest period (April 1-10). If your image is a #10, you must post it for your April 10th image (the system will allow future posting), and you must tag it with "number-10". If you post a #5, you must post it as your April 5th image, tag it with "number-5", and so on... does that make it clear for everyone? This will keep your images organized and easier to keep track of.
ALL images MUST be submitted by 11:59pm on April 10th, Pacific Daylight Time (-8 GMT) in order to be considered. The top 10 finalists will then be selected and posted on Monday, April 12th for voting.
...and to reiterate.... DISCLAIMER AND LEGALEZE: The prize that I am offering is in no way endorsed by or sponsored by the 365 Project, and it is being offered by me personally for this challenge, and does not indicate that any such prizes shall or may be offered in future challenges.
I have a question, do the pictures have to have the same items? Like three of one thing, or can we have three items that are somehow related but different?
Alycia, good question.... the idea is to take three items like three trees, two shoes, the same but not exact. the objects need to be of the same type, but not necessarily exact. For example, if someone was to use a poker three of a kind as a subject for three, the cards themselves are the focal point, even though what is on the cards can be different (different suits). Do I make sense?
What I don't want to see is a number of mismatched items that make no sense. They must all be of the same type of item.
You have certainly gotten a lot of attention on this one, I already took my #1 pic tonight, and see that it can't be entered, soooo I will go back to the place I took it and do a retake tomorrow night, and yes, it is a night shot. Maybe I can do it better tomorrow night will see
I was looking at some of the challenge posting and already see photo's from archive posts. You are going to have your hands full in checking them out.
Good luck. Also when you click on tag for this challenge, any other old posting
with a tag (number,---one,--- numberone,---or another variation of such will show up. Your job isn't gonna be easy.
Sorry, I'm completely new to this...once I upload my photo and tag it as the said number...where do I move it so that it is entered? Sorry, I probably missed this and am being an airhead, I'm just excited! Thank you to anyone who can help.
I noticed that my camera is showing that I took the photo for number 1 was taken in the year 2003 - this isn't true. I don't understand why this is happening!
Alex, I don't know what is going on, I took the photo that was posted tonight, about hour and a half after I took it
yet the posting date is on the 2nd of April, several hours later. Right now the time on my camera is 04-01-2010 22:01
I think we are going to have to tag our photos with a definite theme, as I can't find our "number-1" when I search. It comes up with a ton of other pictures too. Alex, what do you think??? Anyone else agree???
Here is to clarify.... There is a discrepancy when you type in a search term. It WILL give you other closely-matching pictures, BUT if you get to an image that has the "number-1" tag and click on it, you will get only the challenge pictures and nothing more. It's just the way the search function works.
I am not too concerned with the exact date that you post. What is important is that you put the picture under the right date... All number-1 tagged images should be posted as your April 1st image regardless when it was posted. You can post a number-1 next week if that s your wish. You can still post it as your April 1 image. You just have to take the image sometime during the challenge period!
Wow, so far there have been 63 entries for our challenge and there are some outstanding images there. Three in particular stand out and sing. I can't say which ones they are yet, but you all are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!
Remember, ALL your images must be posted by April 10th, 11:59 pm, Pacific Daylight Time (-8 GMT) to be eligible.
wow this is great!!! so happy to be a part of it! by tomorrow i should be able to venture out side a little bit!!! Hooray!!! I've done my second one!! This is harder than i thought!!
hi Alex
i submitted a picture of a statue as my number 1 entry there are 17 pages so far of entries and i can't find mine in there what did i do wrong that it didn't show up under the scheme 1 -to 10 days i tagged it as # 1 by entering "# -1" can i delete it and start over any advise as to how to do it correctly
Hi Bruni, everything looks fine to me, click on the "number-1" tag in your image tag box (next to your picture) and you'll see that there are three pages of images tagged with "number-1", hope this helps
@Alex - I know you can't say but I hope I was one of them. =) I don't want to sound too vain but I am pretty proud of that shot! Hehehe... Can't wait to get my #2 and #3 pics posted. They are not nature shots which is a change but they were fun to take. =) Thanks again for putting this together. I am having a blast!
lol AUTUMN I think my #1 is one of my best shots to date lol.. and yea I sound vain but I'm my worst critic lol so for me to say it was good is an accomplishment lol
Wow... this competition is really starting to heat up! I have my #1 and #3 image selected as finalists pending more entries (my selection could change if a better image is submitted before the10th). #2 is proving to be more difficult... there are many worthy images that are making it tough to choose one. :) You all are doing great! :)
Hi Alex, Could you advise me please. My number-2 photo is not showing up on Day 2. Should I upload it again? I click on it on the number-2 site but the most recent photo comes up ??? I thought it may be the size.
What do you reckon I should do?
I'm new to this and was wondering if you can participate in more than one theme/challenge at a time? There are several I would like to participate in, but it requires that I post 2-3 picutres a day (one for each challenge). Thanks.
Alex, thanks for that suggested. I checked the photo, it was the right year, so I reloaded it as Ruprecht suggested. It came up ok this time - only thing is all the comments have been deleted. I didn't think of that when I did it. :(
There are a lot of great pics being submitted! I have tentatively selected the six images so far with just 4 days to go. We shall have to see what these forthcoming days will present! I have a feeling that these finalists will be very surprised that their entries were chosen by me... :)
Like I said, these are tentative selections, because even day 1 entries can still be submitted on April 10th. Good luck to all!
All done! Thanks so much Alex for setting the challenge. Certainly change the way I took photos each day & re-invigorating my 365 project as I was starting to feel stale. Also a little more achievable for me than the alphabet - maybe that will be my next goal.
Alex, thanks so much! This has been a real hoot to do. So many people with a fabulous sense of humour, not to mention their wonderful photos and input. All encouraging & helping each other with camera settings & information etc - so good!
Thanks again.
Thanks, Alex. I have really enjoyed the number challenge, though as you saw, my interpretation of the numbers often didn't fit "the norm" (if there is such a thing) but regardless, I am pretty happy with my collection of numbers...last day today. I have my idea... BUT I am visiting my son in NC and we are going to the Azalea Festival which includes a parade and music and lots of fun things, so who knows what number 10 will end up being :-)
Thanks Alex for this. I uploaded my last photo late at night and now I still keep looking around, counting things :D
After the alphabetical challenge I did the same, thinking "oh, that would have made a nice H-picture" .
I guess I have to find another good challenge soon!
Ruprecht, you should read some of the other forum topics on here! :) It was announced almost a month ago that there would be a meet today! Check out the General forum section to see info about meets and other gatherings!
Alex, and idea struck me for a potential future challenge: a rainbow challenge. As in, ROYGBIV. It'll only last 7 days, but, could be cool to see the "browse day" page full of each colour for each day
I'll just slink away now.
sheesh... you'd expect better from a school-marm, wouldn't you?

As Richard said: You have your work cut out for you, Alex .....

Try deleting and reposting all over again and see if that fixes it. A quick 'reboot' may be all that's needed .....

You all have posted some really nice images and I am going to have a tough time choosing ten finalists for the final vote! Great job everyone!
I will be going over the images tomorrow and will post my selections Monday morning for voting by the 365 project members. Good luck!
Just call me Mr. Oblivious .....
*see*
Starting April 16, a 10 day macro challenge will be starting. Stay tuned for that as well!
