After watching so many sad news about Japan, I hope that Canada can help them to go through this devastating time. I don't know what else we could do but maybe we can express our ways to help here.
Maybe say a prayer by posting a picture here.
I dont see money can get to the place right now though yes for long term it will help but for now people there probably just want something better than material.
I am not religious either so dont get all offended when I say prayer. Yes money can buy things can it buy back their love ones from the disaster?
I believe in the power of prayer. I also will donate money through an agency, that I know will channel the money into the correct place/s. I cannot give a lot of money right now, but I know every little bit will help.
From the above website:
An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
I know that this is the American Red Cross but I am using it as an example of how easy it should be to find this info, it took me all of 5 mins looking on their website to find it.
This is for the good of the group, I am not preaching at you @pete21, so please don't take it that way.
Sending good vibes, praying, what ever you want to name it can't hurt, even if it seems inconsequential, at least all bases are covered!
@katiegc24 no, praying does literally hurt - one thinks they're helping when they in actuality aren't, so one may not do any other activities which do help - such as donating money to relief funds. It's a dangerous thing to let people believe they are making a difference when there's no evidence whatsoever to suggest that they are, because there's every chance they'll stop at that.
@billcanada not offended :) Just wanted to add some rational practical advice too :)

Money will help long term and perhaps a prayer too as you never know, not sure about a photo unless we can auction them ;-)
I'd also be willing to give more than I do if I knew how much is being skimmed off for 'admin fees' etc.

A pie chart showing where donations go when they are spent on humanitarian services:
