Here is the challenge: Make a photograph based on a famous artist. (Feel free to go beyond just copying an artist's work.) The next artist we will use as inspiration is Edvard Munch, most commonly known for The Scream:
Yes, I know this looks similar to the Home Alone pose made popular by Macaulay Culkin but trust me that the painting came first. Those of you who follow me know that I'm into the strange and macabre so this was my compromise to find a mainstream artist with a quirky side.
Five finalists' works will be chosen and posted. The 365 community will choose a winner from this group of five by voting. The next artist challenge will have a different artist chosen by this week's winner.
To participate please include "theme-munch" as a tag and a single sentence describing how your photograph is related to the artist's work. You may begin at midnight EST 20-Apr, but seven days later at midnight the challenge will be closed. Only work done from April 20 to April 26 will be accepted.
It would be fun to put a copy of the pic in this thread. Might even help others.
Ha my first thought after seeing the title of this thread was "I have no idea who he is, but I sure do like saying his name..." he he, & then I saw 'The Scream' & recognized the artwork, however I've no idea about any of his other works & you've caught my interest so now I'm off to research Edvard Munch :-D
Congrats on the previous win too!
I had and idea in my head a while ago for a scream type picture and then this artist challenge thing started up and I thought I would wait and see when this artist surfaced and try it out then. I thought I recognized the artist's name but I had to check to make sure. So I am super excited and I hope I can pull it off!
@indiannie_jones That's so cool! I hope that means you'll be inspired to join in this challenge. @wadey I was worried folks wouldn't recognize the name and not bother to click on the link for the discussion so I'm glad you did and that you're interested in learning more. Even with Dali, whose work I thought I knew pretty well, I wound up learning new stuff about him during the last challenge. I think that's part of what makes these challenges so much fun. @shadesofgrey Good to hear that you can use your good idea for this! Even if most people wind up doing their version of The Scream I'm excited to see different takes on that. Can't wait to see yours! @relicsong and @mikhasus Wow, that was fast! Great entries! I'm glad to see people are excited about this one.
I love this artist challenge theme and have been meaning to enter, This is my first attempt. I love Expressionism and enjoyed studying Munch's landscapes in order to create one of my own.
Does anyone know what the rules are regarding previous winners being eligible to win again? I'm tempted to err on the side of only allowing non-winners so everyone gets a chance to win. Just wondering if there are any official rules I should be following.
@mikhasus Oh, thanks for that. I really like what you came up with but wasn't sure if you should be in the running again. You can leave your photos tagged for the theme but I just won't count them when I'm choosing the top five.
That is all.
Congrats on the previous win too!
