How can I get rid of the annoying pop ups that keep infesting the bottom right corner of my screen. They flash and keep demanding that I "r'epair windows errors" or that "my computer is infected" or that my "hard drive is full" --- all lies, My pop-up blocker is on and set to the highest level of blocking but these pesky pop-ups keep coming. It happens only on the 365 pages.
out of curiosity David, have you recently used Flickr? Just curious because I just started using it again in the last 2 days and never had a problem with 365 until I started using Flickr again... I'm getting those super annoying ads too.
@jsw0109@traveller The ads are either spyware or a virus, most likely the latter. It's definitely not Flickr as I upload to Flickr daily. I'd recommend booting into Safe Mode and running a full virus scan.
Have you downloaded anything recently? I didn't think I had but I was using a website to convert YouTube videos to MP4 and suddenly there was bad juju everywhere. The site had put something on my desktop which was easy to remove but until I did, it was a total annoyance.
@traveller So sorry to hear you are having this problem--it is so obnoxious!
According to my computer savvy daughter, my browser was high jacked (last June)--I could not access my usual browser and the 365 appeared with numerous words underlined in BLUE. If I clicked on the word it became a pop-up ad or one of those "fake warnings." Near the bottom of my screen, right above the icon bar, and on the right hand side is a small box containing the word "Options..." When I clicked on the box, I found a long list of scripts and sites I could allow or forbid. It took some trial and error to find which one(s) were causing the problems but, finally I was able to access my browser and be rid of the pop-ups on 365. @allie912 Allison put it so well--"bad juju" was everywhere!
My thanks to all for the suggestions. I have tried most of them but I still have the annoying squares popping up in the bottom right had corner of the screen, It only happens on my desk computer and my laptop isn't affected. Done a full virus scan (Norton) amd reset the pop up blocker. Have used Flickr once to see some video of a quadcopter but it hasnt affected my laptop. I'll just have to live with it until something turns up.
You most likely have adware, which technically isn't a virus. I'd download Malwarebytes (free) and install it. First uncheck the 'free pro trial' once installed and updates gotten run the program, follow the instructions when the scan is complete, then start in safe mode and run it again in safe mode.
That works for me on user's devices that I work on.
